Is the dog house air conditioned during the hot Texas days, and heated for the mildly-chilly 'winter'? If not, then it's not OK. Is the yard fully fenced (with a GOOD fence that prevents escapes, and a lock on the gate to prevent someone from opening it w/o your permission?)

Water has to be available at all times, perhaps with some ice in it, on the real hot days. Empty & clean often, as you do not want mesquitos to lay eggs & produce larvae in the water (very unhealthy for the dog if he ingests that). Food shouldn't be left out all day (you'll just be asking for ferals, wild life, etc. to come over), but you should make sure he gets proper amounts of food daily.

Boxers are a high energy breed, and may not be content with living in the backyard.......will he still get walks? Get to go to the pet store for socialization? Get to go to a dog park to wear off some energy, etc?

If not, you may end up with a bunch of holes in your backyard, and possibly even an escaped Boxer, if he figures out how to dig out of the yard.

Why do people get dogs if they are not going to treat them like members of their family???? I mean if you are going to purchase something to keep outside, get a car... a dog is a living breathing animal. It needs love and affection not a cold impersonal dog house with an occasional visit from a family member.... and do you plan on leaving the poor dog outside all winter? Does it get COLD in your part of Texas? Are their various poisonous bugs or snakes that could get your poor dog while it innocently sleeps in that tiny dog house OUTSIDE? If you want a dog as a PET, then treat it as one... Pets should be a part of your family, not something you just go outside to feed, water, and look at for an hour a day.

Don't leave him / her outside. Dogs are family members. You wouldn't keep your mom , or dad, or brother / sister outside in a dog house with some food and water would you? I didn't think so. If you don't want the dog to be part of your family, surrender him / her to your local animal shelter. Where he or she will find a home with someone who loves him or her and will keep him as family member, not just a pet. Not to mention, he / she is a boxer. I've had as many as 4 at once. They need human interaction and love. Which if you keep him / her outside all the time, they will never learn love and affection. Please, don't keep the dog outside. Bring him / her in...show him / her love and treat him / her like a member of your family.

Well, you should let your dog in when it rains and every night. Your dog might not like or luv staying outside and will try to run away. I know mine did so now shes gone. Don't let that happen to you.

a bored dog will create problems...dogs are pack animals so please consider his quality of life and whether you are equipped and prepared to care for this dog emotionally and physically for the rest of his life.

Only if it is in a fenced yard. Even then you have to think about thieves.
