Wow this could be a long answer for me but I'll try to keep it short ok. I grew up in a family who breed and showed dogs. My Aunt also. They were toy Poodles for my Family and my Aunt it was Rough coated collies. I had the privilege to go and participate in many dogs shows. One show my Aunt took me too I saw my first Golden. I've read about them but never seen on before. I thought they were the most beautiful dogs I'd ever seen. I love the way they pranced around the ring like they were floating. Their furs was so impressive. I was hooked. From that point on I made it a point to read, talk to, and look at any Golden's that were at any shows my Aunt took me too. I was 15 years old. I also made a pest of my self with Golden owners, handlers and judges who judged them too. I took notes and I still have the note books.
It was a connection that is hard to describe. It was a personal realization for me. One that has been with me for 30 + years now. I still get goose bumps when I see an exceptional Golden in the ring or working in the Fields. I love watch my golden run, and am amazed at how graceful they are. I take great pride in my Golden's and they have done me very proud!

Well I own two dogs. A Maltese female and Shih-tzu x Maltese male. I love all the breeds of dogs but the reason I chose those two breeds is because they are small dogs and they mesh into my lifestyle perfectly. I am a person who is not very sporty thus I need a dog who is happy spending time with me around the house, but I still give my dogs their one hour and a half walk once a day however my point is their exercise is not nearly as demanding as the breed of a Border Collies would be, this breed just does not get tired! Consequently for my happiness and the dogs I am not going to own a dog with a high drive for exercise when I cant provide it. This may also be the reason why I haven’t adopted any dogs from shelters because there are hardly any small breeds.
Another reason why I chose the Maltese and Shih-tzu is because they are such beautiful breeds and so cute! The maltese especially is a very lovely breed, looks and personality

our choice had nothing to do with breed, we went to the shelter and after a few trips, we found the dog with the best temperament, and surprisingly, it was a rottweiler-Shepperd mix, but he is the sweetest thing. And, oddly enough, the lab in the kennel next door to him was growling the whole time and was not what you'd expect a lab to be. So, long story short, don't judge on breed, because, yes, breed does have something to do with the temperament, but it also has to do with training and the dog itself. Now for size and energy level, all i have to say is this, we chose Bandit because the whole family fell in love with him, and before we even started looking for a dog my mother was adamant about that it would be a medium dog, because she didn't want a small dog and she didn't want a big dog. Honestly i don't think she would have cared if Bandit was a Chihuahua or a Great Dane (OK she might have had some trouble with the great Dane, but I'm on a role!) What I'm trying to say, is that, as corny as it sounds, you should go with your heart, unless of course you have a grumpy landlord!
Geez! well i just made a short story long!!!

I own eight border collies. I originally got a mated pair to work the cattle and sheep on my uncles ranch. They were so talented together that we decided to breed them which how we got six more. Border collies are medium sized, energetic, hard workers and very friendly so we don't have to worry about having them around my uncles small children and they don't mind working the long hours in the field.
Then we got two German Shepherds who had a pup. Again German Shepherds are kid friendly. They work as excellent guard dogs because we have had theives in the past, but they are also family pets.
Then I personally got a wolf-malhemute hybrid because I thought she was the most gorgeous puppy ever born and I always dreamed of owning a wolf-hybrid. She is my best friend and confident. She also works as a guard dog and hiking companion when I go backpacking in the mountains.

I have a papillon.
I live in a 1-bedroom apartment, so I don't have a lot of room. Papillons stay small, so that's a plus for me. Also, I have to travel a ways to visit my family, and a small dog is easy to take with me both in the car and on a plane.
I knew before I got my dog I wanted to do agility. Papillons excel at the sport because they are intelligent, nimble, and fast.
Papillons don't have a lot of health problems. (There are some, but overall, they are a pretty healthy breed.)
They are very happy little dogs, and always want to play. It's harder to feel unhappy around a papillon. I've had bouts of clinical depression for years; having such a happy dog around rubs off. :)
I also find papillons very beautiful and they have a beautiful 'prance' for a gait. And they don't require a lot of grooming, just a monthly bath and brushing once or twice and week and they're good to go. And I absolutely love the feel of their coat.

We weren't thinking of getting a dog, but my auntie called my mom from Petsmart. They were having an "adoption day" and there was this tiny, tiny puppy that all the other dogs were stepping on and running over.
We were the only "dogless" people in our family at that time, and she just wanted us to come look at the pup. Well, we went down, and, really, how do you say no to a puppy the size of your hand?
She had the tiniest feet, a small head and the rescueres SWORE she was a chihuahua mix, and would never be bigger than 10-15 pounds, so we adopted her.
Well, 65 pounds later, that "chihuahua mix" is at least half YELLOW LABRADOR!!!
Maybe mixed with Pitt Bull, but not so it shows, but NO chihuahua!
I love Labs, and wouldn't trade her for anything, but we watched her grow, and grow, and grow!!! It became a family joke when we tell everyone about our "chihuahua mix".

Without a question I own Whippets because of the breed. I love the wash and wear coat, the absence of doggy order, their quiet nature, their low activity level. I love the fact they are gentle and sweet and almost always get along with other dogs. I like their size, not too big and not too small. It's the perfect breed for me, but certainly not for everyone.

well i have a cocker spaniel poodle mix, chihuahua Maltese mix and a Maltese mainly because my fiance has asthma and if there is a lot alot of fur flying around he could have difficulty breathing so we decided to get dog breeds that shed little to no hair. we got our Maltese first but decided he should have some company and as my friend just had a litter of chihuahua Maltese mix we got our little only girl.
the poodle cocker spaniel was a surprised but welcomed addition. he is a very high energy dog so he accompanies me every day to the riding stables and has a good run and can keep up with my horse! :)

Good Question....
I LOVE my Husky, for their looks, love of life, their personality, they love everyone and everything..I adopted her when she was 12 weeks old and she has kept me on my toes ever since. They are a different breed, not for everyone, but I would take another in a heartbeat.
My Berner... LOVE my Berner...the first time I seen one at a dog show, I KNEW I would have one. They have an 'air' about them that attracted them to me. They are awesome working dogs that will let you know if a stranger is around, can be aloof, but are the best and will do anything I ask of her!!
I admire many different breeds for different reasons, but some of them aren't all the right ones for me.
I will ALWAYS have a Berner or a Husky in my life:)

I own a Chow/Huskey Mix. I prefer a larger dog because I feel they offer more protection and also because there is More to Hug and love! I have owned a Rotweiller and a Full blooded chow.
Growing up we had beagles but they were not as loveable as the larger breeds that I have had.
Our dog now weighs about 70 pounds and he is the biggest lover I've ever had. Loves his snuggles.
