I know this is not a question, I hope I won't get flamed for this but I just want some clues, advice or whatever facts about canidae dog food all stages. So yesturday I fed my dog Iams (I know not to feed it 100% at a time stay on topic please) and realized it was sh!t so for the benifit and better health of my dog I was reccomended canidae, artemis, eagle, timberwolf and EVO innova. I got canidae because it was the most well worth it, I know its not as good as timberwolf or EVO because it does contains grains, but then again its one of those A+ products along with timberwolf & evo, so I got it because of the feeding guide line wize, and comparing the price of lbs so I got canidae. If someone could please give me facts on this it would be helpful, the pet store owner also said not to get the 30 lbs one or something, the bigger one, because my pomeranian wouldn't be able to finish it in time, then the food will not be as fresh if I bought 6lbs which I have correct?

Also if anyone feeds canidae, please tell me your story why you chose it, and how your dog reacts to it when they eat it, fast? slow? craves for it?

Well I feed Canidae to my Golden's. Their coats are beautiful. Their teeth are in excellent shape, their poop is firm and not too big and easy to pick up.
I buy the 40pound bags because I have 3 big dogs and a Golden pup so they all eat the Canidae. I have an air tight container to keep the food in. If you can find a air tight container to get a 20 pound bag it would be cheaper for you and it will keep the food very fresh too.
I think you made a very good choice with the food. Good luck!

ADD: My Golden's love the food and I have no problems with it or them eating it.
If you feed your dog high quality food and get your dog good vet care and make sure it getting excersise than it will live a good long life.

Here's what I use to store my dog food: Opps sorry let me try again:

Sorry I cant get the site to pop up here. It's Item number V107368
I have the one for 50 pounds. I have had this storage container for 4 years now and it works beautifully. I know it's off of QVC but hey it works. :)

I don't like leaving it in the bag. It can go stale that way once it's opened, and bugs and other critters can get into it. Another way to store it is if you get one of those hugh ziplock bads they have out now and just dump it in one of those too.

I just switched to Canidae. I was using Innova Puppy. Innova is a great food, but my 8 month old has a really sensitive tummy. I switched to Canidae just to see if anything changed. So far he hasn't thrown up once or anything like that. Plus his appetite has increased tons! Both of my boys absolutely love the taste!

I always fed my dog Iams (because my cats do really well on Iams), but then I saw so many thumbsdown here for it and recommendations of Canidae. So I switched to Can. all life stages, and she wouldn't even finish the Iams; she loved the Can. much better. I got a 2nd dog, and with the newness or whatever, they aren't eating much; only when I add a can on top of the dry. I bought a 2nd bag of Can., but lamb and rice, and they like it ok. They don't tear into it, but they seem to like it ok.

fyi- my cats hate the Felidae. 1 refuses to eat it and demands the Iams. I don't know why people here are so down on Iams? I just lost my 17 y.o. cat, which was a good, long life, and no health problems. And the other 3 are good.

I feed Canidae to all of my dogs..I like it because of the ingredients..while it does have grains it is the cheap filler, high allergen grains that are found in the lower quality foods. It has a lot of useful meat protein which is needed by dogs.
My dogs like it and do very well on it.
My Danes eat 4 cups per dog per day. They maintain a very health weight, have great coats, very minimal shedding, only 1-2 firm poops per dog per day..

I used to feed my dog Canidae and I was happy with it and my dog seemed to really like it. But I got away from it when I decided to make his dog food by using a totally cooked diet. I was happier doing that. I wanted to get away from all grains and I just felt more relaxed .... but personally every dog person I know feeds their dog Canidae

You don't want to buy more than you can use for the size of your dog. I guess many people do not realize it but the food will not be fresh and from what I have read stays fresh for about a week and not much longer. Also certain vitamins in the dog food are affected by keeping food for too long.

What is the best way to store dry pet food?

Although I’m willing to bet it is one of the most common ways pet owners in the U.S. store dry pet food, it is, in fact, not necessarily a good idea to store dry pet food by pouring it out of its original bag into a plastic container of any kind, even those nice big air-tight containers with screw-top lids, or expensive Tupperware-like containers. Why?
Even the hardest plastics can be scratched.
Pet food contains oils.
If you put dry pet food (which is rough) into a plastic container, the plastic will get scratched.
The oils from the pet food can get trapped in even the tiniest scratches in the plastic.
The oil goes bad and becomes rancid.
The bad oil rubs onto the new dog food.
Your dog ingests the new food with the bad oil and becomes ill.
The FDA Web site recommends:

“If you store dry pet food in a container other than its original bag, be sure to wash the empty container with soap and water before adding food from a new bag. The residual fat that settles on the bottom of the container can become rancid beyond its shelf life (the date stamped on the bag). This spoiled fat may contaminate fresh food added to the container, causing vomiting or diarrhea when fed to your pet.”

However, some folks would argue that even cleaning the plastic with soap and water will NOT solve the problem.

The PetStop employee I spoke to recommended that you always keep the pet food in it’s original bag, and keep the bag of food in an air right plastic container. When the food is gone, throw the bag away, and put a new bag of food in the container.

Getting a large dog food bag to fit into some of the older container models can be tricky, but it is possible. The pet product industry has (of course) made available a new type of air-tight container with a new shape that makes putting in the entire bag of pet food a piece of cake.
