Looking for a small to medium sized dog. Hoping to find one that isn't to hyper and NOT A CONTINUOUS BARKER. Any suggestions?

Barking is not so much a breed thing as a training thing - any dog can be trained not to bark. In terms of breeds, visit the American or Canadian Kennel Club websites and do your research - the toy breeds tend to be smaller, and more like lapdogs. If you're a pretty laid-back person who isn't very active, this group may be for you. Here, you'll find the pugs, miniature and toy poodles, boston terriers, shih tzus, chihuahuas, etc. Or, if you're looking for a more active breed (NOT hyper), look into the terrier group. They tend to have more spunk and you'll find dogs that don't shed in this group. Here you'll find the Westies, Scottish terriers, miniature daschunds and schnauzers, fox terriers, Norfolk/Norwich - all but the daschunds and schnauzers come from the British Isles and were bred to hunt vermin. Visit dog shows, too - they are a valuable source of information from dedicated and reputable breeders who are always happy to talk about their dogs. Of course, there's always the Humane Society where you'll find any number of mutts who would love a good home!

a blood hound, or a british bulldog, the bulldog and hound are a medium sived dog that can be fun to play with and great with all people. The only problem with the blood hound is that it is not a continuous barker but the bark in a very deep low bark filled with lots of bass. good dogs though

A retired greyhound would be great....they are surprisingly mellow, and very quiet- although they might be a little bigger than you are looking for. The animal shelter and rescue groups are chockablock full of mixed breeds and sometimes purebred dogs of every shape, size and age. I saw some really cute terrier mixes the other day here in Miami, in the 20 pound range.

finding a breed is up to you, but you can train any dog not to be a barker if you start training on day one. i have 3 min pins and a chihuahua, and none of them are barkers :) but they are hyper and probably aren't the breeds your looking for. anyways, good luck on your search!!!

well if you dont want a dog stay away from small dogs! they never stop barking! my mom got me a small weiner dog for my birthday and she never stops!!! and i would recomend just going to an animal shelter and picking out a dog you like or looking in the paper. thats the best way to go because you could be saving that dogs life. but just about any medeum dog can be trained to be at least a little bit quieter. i recomend a labrador or a border collie

Seeing Eye dogs that were not quite good enough to make the grade. Those that have been trained for that..Super Dogs Just not good enought maybe for the Blind.Great for other people. They can sometimes get larger so you need to be carfule when choseing one so as not to get one that is going to get big.
