My two 11 month old puppies are chewing all of my furniture. everytime they r chewing on something i pick them up and give them a chew toy. they chew it for like... 10 seconds then run back to the furniture they were chewing. i keep on picking them up and giving them a chew toy but nothing is working. The vet said that i should just pick them up and give them a chew toy. i guess he was wrong... =( also..... i was wondering.. How do i stop the constant whining!?!?! they hate to be alone.... help me? thx

It kept biting at my dogs neck (she's a golden retriever and not very aggressive). The owner of the husky said that all her dog needed was for my dog to react to hers in a defensive way (snarl, bite back) and then her dog would leave mine alone. I didn't say anything but I was thinking she should take her dog home. Her dog was doing this with all the new arrivals to the park. Finally I took mine home and she was really glad to get away from there....she normally loves it there and has a great time.
What would you have said/done?

I was just wondering everyone's opinion on the no-chaining for dogs.
I'm about 50/50 for it.
50% of me supports it because of the people who chain their dogs out and don't pay any attention to them.
Or feed them etc.
And then again some dogs cannot be broughten inside.
(*But thats not really an excuse, anyone could get a fence put up*)

But the other 50% opposes it.
And thats only because I have a Blue Tick Koon Dog (hunting dog)
And she doesn't get along well with my cats.
&&She especially doesn't like it in the house.
(We brought her in once when it was cold out and she just cried and cried until she got outside)
But eventually I got a kennel/fence put up outside so shes chain free now=D

But I was just wondering everyones opinion!

ok i allready know the answer since ring worm its a very contagious Fongus but i want other people to speak up in the matter since today im having a house meeting, and help me out with a humane solution to keep me and my pets safe yet not harming my roomates dog.

This its my roomates dog and he refuses to leave the dog outside or in a crate therefore my dog and my cat has to be lock in a room, Because i dont want them to get infected...
yet this its too late for me i just came from the hospital and i got some pills and creams and along with a badge of honor because of my roomate irresponsability, avandoment for his dog and bad hygene around others.

here are some pictures of the first week we are now in week 5 and the infection has spread all over his body and legs except his face...

It is now about many other breeds. Did you know in some cities they are thinking about banning all breeds over 40 #. Do not think it can not happen just look at Louisville new pet law. Any gbreed is just one bite away from someone wanting to ban it.

I'm moving into an apartment by myself in September and would like a little companion. The pet policy is 25lbs and under. I'm not a fan of puffy coats and high maintenance dogs, I want a dog that will still run with me and get dirty.. like a real dog should! Any suggestions? I was thinking Miniature Australian Shepherd but they would probably be too active for apartment life, and also mayhaps a Miniature Pinscher.

i have not been able to find a case related to mine. i have a 3 month old lab who eats three times a day. 6am, noon, 6pm. i fed him his normal lunch and as always i let it soak for a while to expand it before he eats. a few minutes after he ate he threw up. the throw up looked just like his food. he has been throwing up about every 20 minutes to half hour since. each time he throws up it just looks more and more digested. i have been allowing him to drink water, he has peed but is also throwing more water now. the dog is still hungry, he wants to eat, even his throwup.

just spoke with the animal hospital and hey can't help me without seeing the dog first. any suggestions?

I remember a time when the "rolled up newspaper" method of dog training was the accepted norm. Back then, many trainers taught their dogs to do amazing things (and do them quite well) using methods that most folks today would consider "cruel". I'm not advocating any particular school of training here, but I was wondering: What happened that most people changed their training habits? How did positive reinforcement start, and do you think it will continue to be the preferred method of dog training?

A corgi cairn terrier mix? I have a 3 month old puppy. She resembles a corgi much more than a cairn terrier. Has anyone ever had a dog with this type of mix?

why do they look so different? i would have never guessed they were the same breed

I have a westie who very recently (over the past 3 days) has developed 4-5 small, round, scaly bumps on her face and back. She scratches at them causing them to bleed, and on the ones she can't reach, her skin is peeling off. Of course I'm taking her to the vet as soon as possible, but I was curious as to what I'm dealing with and how much treatment she will have to go through (and I'll have to pay for ). I know westies are famous for their skin problems, but I haven't read anything about this bumps in any descriptions online. She isn't really losing her hair around these bumps, so I'm stumped. Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Hey there,

I got this poem from my gran when my Dog died...

A Loss Of A Companion.....

If it should be that i grow weak,
and pain should keep me from my sleep
then you must do what must be done
for this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad i understand,
don't let your grief then stay your hand
for this day more than all the rest,
your love for me must stand the test.

we've had so may happy years,
what is to come can hold no fears,
you'd not want me to suffer so,
the time has come please let me go.

Take me to where my needs they'll tend
and please stay with me till the end
hold me firm and speak to me,
until my eyes no longer see.

Please do not grieve it must be you,
who has this painful thing to do,
wev'e been so close, we two these years,
don't let your heart hold back the tears.

i just wanted to share that poem with you!

What should I do with my dog? It is a Presa whose intent in life appears to be the total destruction of the neighbourhood's cats, dogs, children and old people. HELP!!!!

Okay, so I have this friend that got a dog for Christmas. They told everyone that they did not want one and they just ignored and gave him one anyway. He is at a point in his life where it is just really difficult to deal with a dog, on top of everything else that is going on.

Besides which, this dog is very disobedient and naughty. I think a lot of that is because he cannot spend enough time with it, but nonetheless, it is a problem.

He doesn't know what to do, because he is a kind hearted person, he has tried to raise this dog, but he really, really does not want it - which I believe the dog can sense too.

I know, everyone will say to take it to the humane society or something. Well, we live in a small town and they don't have that. The only have the pound, which will kill them within a few days if they are not taken by someone else.

What do you suggest? How would you deal with it when you specifically asked NOT to get one, but that is what you were given?
