Wow shephardlover you really are ignorant. I hope you don't have dogs. I would feel sorry for them. Getting your dog spayed or neutered is proven a benefit to the dog, family, and socitity, whatever the breed.
As for Monica, I agree that suggesting peopel get a dog they don't care for is an irrisponsible thing to say. However you are intitled to your biased opinion about them yourself, however your friends dog did not just "snap on day". Unless they had a dog with a mental disorder, a well bred pitbull does not snap. Blame it on the dog, but the adults who owned it are to blame 100%!!!!!!!!!! Obedience training does not make a balanced dog. It makes an obedient dog. I have several dogs including mostly pit bulls. And as well balanced and wonderfully trained as they are, they are still dogs. And I will never leave my son around any dog no matter what breed or size alone. Shame on the parents for doing this to thier child.

^No spayed or neutering any dog will not change a sweet disposition, it will somewhat calm down an aggressive dog.
The problem with pit bull's is in the breeding. Some breeder's took a perfectly good dog and bred them for their bad traits. Unfortunately some of them have been bred as killers.
When buying a pit bull or any dog really, you need to know who the breeder is, the origin and the lineage of the dog. I don't own a pit bull, my cousin has one that she says is a little lamb. One of my neighbors and her dog were attacked by a pit bull while they were sitting on her porch. It's all in the breeding. I'm glad yours has a sweet disposition. Enjoy her.

I don't hate them, But I do not like them either, I would never ever have a pit in my household! One mauled my cousins little girl. It was their family pet. It was well trained, grew up with the children, most loving dog anyone could want. Just snapped one day and ripped half her face to shreds from her eye to under her chin. There is no way I would ever have one, I would never ever put my family or my grandchildren in any harms way.
If I get thumbs down for speaking my Opinion, so be it. But you should never ever tell people to go out and get one. That is the most dangerous irresponsible thing you could ever do. There are enough pits in the wrong peoples hands. You will just be contributing to the problem by telling people to go out and get one.
EDIT: To nikki p, Just thought I'd tell you the whole story. Here is what happened my cousins girl was NOT left alone with the dog. ..... She was just sitting on a couch with her grandma when the dog ran up to her and went for her face. It took the grandma, the dad and the mom all tried to get that dog off of her. The child did nothing to the dog at all. They could not get the dog off the child. They finally went and got a pry bar, shoved it in the dogs mouth and twisted it until the dog let loose. Yes it was put down. That little girl almost died. she was in the hospital for 2 months. She had a few blood transfusions becasue she lost so much blood. All of her scars are still there today. But ya know what, She is still the most beautiful girl in the world. When someone asked her what happened she will tell them.

spaying any dog does not change the personality.
Yes in teh very first week or two withthe stitches she needs to be kept a little quieter so she doesn't rip the surgical area but other than that she should be the same just not able to produce puppies.
Oh and do realize for the first 2-3 day she may want to lay around just due to the surgery.
I have had many dogs spayed and some have been those really sweet pitt bulls and they never changed.

Usually for the better. My daughter and son-in-law currently have 13 pitbulls, thanks to a rescue dog having 9 puppies. The two spayed females they've had were/are the most patient, kind animals you could want. The two of them really took to the 9 mo old boy they adopted and put up with all kinds of things from him.

I have 2 pits, male and female litter mates. Both are wonderful, loyal, sweet, babies. They were great puppies and we had both of them altered and they are just as sweet. If anything, it has calmed down the hyper-ness and made them more "focused". Please, get her spayed. Also, fixed dogs are less likely to have health problems as they get older.

It won't change her at all! She will live a longer, healthier, and happier life once she is fixed! She will have significantly lower chances of getting several types of cancers! Congratulations on the choice to have her spayed! You will not be sorry you did!

Spaying her will only calm her down even more. And you might have to watch her for weight gain.
I love pits:)

It shouldn't change your dogs personality by spaying her, I had my (male) APBT neutered and he is still as sweet and loving as ever.
