What should I do with my dog? It is a Presa whose intent in life appears to be the total destruction of the neighbourhood's cats, dogs, children and old people. HELP!!!!

Sounds like you have your hands full with that one!

I can fix this problem in three words: mind, body, soul. Let me explain.

Presa is a catch dog, and like many dogs used for that purpose he can be (and must be, really) as hard as nails. Hey, let's be honest about it, if your going to send in a dog to stop a wild pig that's willing to fight back - you're going to need a dog with some game. And the Canary Prey Dog is game-on!

But now to your problem - the unruly Presa Canario. He's just like any other unruly dog, if he has not come to respect his masters, then he is going to try to master you and everything else in the neighbourhood.

So what are you going to do? Will you try to 'alpha' role the 100+ pound dog? That would be remarkably stupid.

Are you going to try to love him and give him treats, coo him like a big baby, and teach him to walk in a harness like a nice poosie-woopsie? Disrespect him like that and he will roll you like the panty-waist pansy-*** you are.

I see some of the answerers have advised that you banish the dog to some remote acreage, keep him penned up like a lion in a caged cage, or kill him dead ... how totally cruel.

My advise is that you teach the dog to respect himself as a valued member of the pack, his place in that pack, and most importantly ... ->teach him to respect your place in the pack.<-
Your place is as pack leader, head honco, top dog, numero-uno, high man on the totem pole, the big cheese. BUT - if you think you can wrestle him for that respect, you are most likely to come out of that battle more like a big weenie (assuming you come out of it with your head still attached), and that ain't going to be pretty.

So, what you have to do is what he has already began to do (your comment about him being intent on children and old people), you must identify the weakest potential and go after that. So what's Presa's 'weakest' potential? Well it ain't his body ... that dog is ready, willing, able, and most capable of dropping you to the ground and taking you apart, one delicious limb at a time. And it ain't his soul ... that dog's rustic appeal goes straight to the bone and courses through his blood with an energy potent enough to battle the toughest of yesteryear's opponents, and survive! So what's left? His mind - that's the weakest part of any dog. You see, behind that 10" wide skull is nothing more than a few ounces of grey matter that's as easy to manipulate and control as what's in the skull of a Chihuahua - IF YOU KNOW HOW. Obviously you don't. So the very first thing for you to do is train your own grey matter.

This is now becoming too long for this forum, but you need to be told this: Your dog is no less capable of being as good as he can be than the best dogs you have ever seen - you simply need to be taught how to teach him in a manner and means that he will respect. To master this teaching ability IS to master the dog. A dog that respects his master is a dog worthy of his master's respect. Ergo its all about mastering respect.

Here are a few tips:
1: You don't fight to be master - he'll win;
2: You don't bribe to be master - he'll simply take what he wants; and
3: You don't assume to be master - he will assume your butt all over the pavement.

What you need to do is train your mind to train his. Your's, if intelligently applied, is always superiour to his ... and he, because he is a domesticated animal, is always willing to respect the hand that feeds him.

So, read some books, audit some obedience classes and interview some trainers. Then take two asprins and call me in the morning ... your Presa is fundamentally nothing more than a giant Chihuahua.

I feel that a dog like that is a danger to society. I would have to say put him to sleep. Something or someone in his life has caused him to be this way. It is sad but what will you so when you decide to have kids? What will you say to a parent whose little girl's face was just mauled by your dog? What about the lawsuit you will have to face and the hospital bills or vet bills you will have to pay?

If you try everything suggested already and don't want to put him down, then the only other thing I can suggest would be for you to move far out in the country with no nearby neighbors or farm animals.

I think you should start making your dog happy. What you should start doing, is daily, go through your neighborhood and pick out the worse cats, dogs (teacups and oodles), old people and especially kids, when you get a chance grab a couple and feed them to your dog. It has to eat right?
You can look at it as community service because we get rid of the little trolls, their parents and all the nasty little animals that cause problems. This will have to extend past your own neighborhood, but just think of the possibilities, it might get rid of all the dumba$$es and problem pets and as a bonus, you will not have to buy dog food anymore. I hear those dogs eat a lot, so happy hunting!!!

Haha I have to agree with Shepherdgirl! Clean up the neighbourhood! When you are done in your own neighbourhood, start moving out.. You could hire yourself out with your dog.. Cleaning up neighbourhoods all over.. I would bring you in.. I have a few neighbours that are old, one that has far too many cats, and one that keeps breeding their far too young labrador... What would you charge to clean up the neighbourhood?

The dog is not able to be alone, he needs to be in a atmosphere of no boundaries, which is usually hopeless. So find him a home where he can ad jest. Maybe a guard dog at a junk yard, or a home with acres. He will get you in trouble with the code enforcement if you don't keep him in sight at all times.

Build a kennel for the dog with concrete underneath, and a roof or top on the kennel. Make the kennel with heavy gauge chain link. Then put another kennel around that one!!

Hmmmmm....only old people, kids, dogs, and cats huh? Guess it checks people's drivers licenses to make sure they are over 60 or under 18. LMAO Something just doesn't quite ring right with this question.

underground fence with remote control access on the collar as well. That will keep it in bounds and if he's out of bounds and doing somehting he shouldn't you'll have the abiltiy to zap. It sounds cruel, but it's better than him/her going off to the pound and the eternal hatred of your neighborhood.

You know what honey? Don't feel so bad, so many other morons here get similar dogs for similar reasons.
If you can't handle her, spend few bucks and find her a new home.
P.S. And yeah, just like pits and "amstaffs", presas canario were bred to FIGHT!!!
