Can you cut & paste some pix of both breeds, pups & adults as your answer?
currently I can not access anything but yahoo, & Im wanting to compare the 2 breeds, cosmetically.

Great Danes minimum height for female 28" for male 30" average for females is 33", males 36" measured at the withers/shoulder
Danes are taller then Mastiffs but are built lighter and usually weigh less.
Danes can have their ears cropped, but it is becoming more and more common to leave them natural. Mastiffs do NOT have their ears cropped and neither breed ever has their tail docked!!
As far as guarding goes Danes & Mastiffs are about even in this category...both are usually laid back and calm, especially if well bred, well trained and properly socialized.

You can't post pictures on yahoo, but I can tell you that I've read that Great Danes are known to be the largest of all the working breeds. Bull Mastiffs are the most preffered guard dogs. Great Danes are very large, the most big known to stand at fourty two inches, I believe. Bull Mastiffs are also large, as are all mastiffs. You can crop their ears, which are more of a cosmetic purpose now, and dock their tails.
