Over 16 weeks old? Are there disadvantages to getting an older puppy (over 16 weeks old) - like bad behavior already established or we missed the cute puppy stage?

my almost three year old chihuahua scratches himself to severe bleeding! the blood is on the carpet, on his bed, on walls, and on his fur and body! he scratches his ears especially and under his arms and his tummy. i went to the vet and they do not know the specific problem but suggested an ant-itch spray. but it did not work... i tried the spray, those cone collars, flea collars, dulling his nails, doctor recommended pills. but nothing works! he does not have fleas. the doctor clearly stated that. i went to over 5 vets and they all don't know the problem! i

My 9mo. old baby girl is in heat, this is her second week (or so). I noticed she is MASSIVELY SWOLLEN...it kinda hangs when she walks, and resembles being a boy instead of a girl. I had another female that was in heat and she got swollen and red, but no where near this. Should I be worried? It looks like it's about to fall out, and it's kinda worrying me. She doesn't appear to be in any pain at all, but I was just curious if this was normal. I'm waiting for this heat to pass so I can spay her, so we won't be worrying about this again. Thanks all.

Ok I have a 8 pound Chihuahua mix. She is around 7 years old. She is a heathy little thing and has a strong stomach. I know cause she has eaten some pretty bad things in the past and has been fine. So anyway I awoke early in the morning around 7am to the dog vomiting in my bed. It was alittle red but i thought it was the bacon like treats we give her sometimes. I thought she just wasn't feeling so well. So the next day while out at the store she vomited a yellowy something on the floor. Then a day went by, she was fine. Then last night I woke up at 5am to her throwing up that red like stuff again. Now i cannot remember if i gave her the bacon treats. But now i wonder if she is sick. Can dogs get stomach ulcers. she astc fine. Running and playing. But i don't under stand the vomiting

If it was a total stranger, my dog would try his best to scare him away or maybe even try and hurt him. But, if it was someone he recognized, I think he would just want to play with them.

I just got a puppy and we havent taken her to the vet yet. She has ear mites and weird bumps on her back probably cause by the bugs outside in the hole she lays in. Does anyone have any idea how much the examination and vaccines are going to cost??

I have a dog that's 1 and a half years old. She recently had 15 puppies.. but only 13 remain. When they were just less than 2 weeks with their eyes still closed.. she attacked 5 of them, killing one brutaly. Ever since then we haven't let her alone with the puppies, but she still attacks them even while we're around. She is a very sweet dog and don't understand her behavior. I know she would never attack me or my husband but I'm worried about my unborn child. I will be due in another couple of months and worried sick she may be aggressive to my baby. Should I give her away to protect my child?

Would she look saggy or puffy? I adopted a dog and I know she was used for breeding and I know she was spayed after a prolapsed uterus and she looks very large in her back end.

I was just wondering if anyone knows/ has had experience with this: if puppies are born with darker fur on their face and legs, does it go away? The breeder I'm thinking of buying a pomeranian puppy from sent me a picture. I was thinking maybe it's just blood from when they were born and it will clear up in time?

Our two year old Chiualua was paralyzed back in Februaury of this year. We nursed him back to health and he was fine. He bagan walking and playing as normal. The vet. said it was probably just swelling causing the temporary paralasis, we counted our blessings and moved on. Until yesterday when all of a sudden he couldn't walk again. When we put him in water he can stand and move his legs and when we touch them we can tell he feels them. However he just drags his legs behind him just like he did during the initial injury. We were with him when the problem began and did not see anything happen to cause it. The weather is getting colder here so at first we wonderd if the injury could have caused arthritis. The not walking part scares us. Tail still wags, nose is still wet and he responds to sound and touch so we see no other underlying problem. Please if any one knows what might be the problem and what we can do it would be greatly be appreciated.

I have a cocker spaniel who is 12 1/2 years old. He's been relatively healthy his whole life, but recently he went into right-sided heart failure. His stomach is hugely distended and is full of fluid - they drained 2 1/2 pounds of it today at the vet. They gave him some medication, but if it doesn't work they recommended we take him to a heart specialist an hour away - the vet said this might start adding up to $10,000. We don't have that kind of money. He is a loving dog and we love him very much, but when is too much too much? He's not in pain - just uncomfortable from heavy breathing (due to the heart failure).

My question - is it ethical to put a dog to sleep, even if there is treatment that may or may not work, because it is too expensive?

Please help. :o(

My 2 year old female chihuahua gave birth to her first litter of 6 puppies about 2 days ago. 2 of them already died because they were so small and weren't able to eat very much. Now there are 4 left, 2 of which seem to have gained a healthy weight, 1 is starting to gain a little weight but is still skinny, and the last doesn't seem to gain any weight at all. For the two smaller puppies I've been helping them to their mother's breast so that they can be fed because they can't seem to do it on their own. I direct them towards the breast every time the other puppies eat. But even then they never eat very much. What can I do about this?

why do people ask questions here when they dont want a real answer, they just want to justify what they are doing is right with their dog? Why do you need justification if you are already assuming your tactics are the correct ones?

I have a question, my husband told me he has ordered a bernese puppy for me, she's available in 5 weeks? I have always wanted this dog (i love all dog's but i have a soft spot for this breed). I don't know wheather to get her, it's my choice now.
I went to Orlando at the start of July and both my cats got killed on the road behind my house, i always had someone looking after them , they were only one yr old (miss them like crazy). Garden is fenced in, so the dog could'nt get out. My two year old says god bless them every night, as she still misses them lots, i know its good for her to mix with animals, but i'm also 19 weeks pregnant, so with a baby and a pup i don't think the pup would get the training she deserve's. I said i would always get one when i had my 3 kid's, but i have been so down and miss my cats my husband said he would suprise me, he told me last night he ordered one.

I don't know what to do? Any advice?

The weather here gets into the low 100's during the day and the upper 80's at night. Some "friends" of mine are going to try and find me with their tracking hounds. I'm going to have a 5 hour headstart before they know to start looking for me. Any tips on what to do and how to prepare myself before and during my flight would be appreciated.
