Just curious as to why some of you are here? How did you find Yahoo Dogs? Do you think you help people? Or do you think it's a game?

I'm here because after 27 years of showing and breeding Golden's I felt I had some experiences and help to offer other folks.

Never did I think I would get so may responces. I'm at a lost for word to express how impressed I am with all of them.
Some times the simplest question can open up a wondeful door to let everyone see, and learn many things.
I feel like a student and you all are my teaches. I learn something new here every day, something I didn't know.
Thay's why I come back, that's why I answer questions.
Thank you all so very much!

I saw a link one time for yahoo answers - the question was from Nacy Pelosi (yea right - probably one of her aides) on nuclear power. I teach chemistry and we were on nuclear chem so I entered the site and thought it was fabulous (at first).
It took me a few weeks to realize there were categories and that I could switch between them (I should really work on my reading skills eh?) I saw dogs and entered simply because I was curious! What kinds of questions would there be? What kind of environment would it be? What kind of answers would there be?
I found a lot of questions about things that I have dealt with directly with my dogs. Am I an expert - no - not by any means. Everyday I learn something new about what works with my dogs and what doesn't. Every day on every walk I deem it training time. After reading answers from a lot of you (DP, dobie, shepherdgirl, darlyn, goldengal) I realize that I am in the minority. I have found that a lot of people on yahoo answers want a quick fix (it's fast food mentality) for their dogs. My dog pees in the house, how do I fix it (as if there is some magical conversation you could have with your dog to simply explain why they aren't supposed to be in the house). I have learned over the years with my dogs that training never ends. They are like kids - in order to foster a behaviour in dog or child there must be reinforcement (of some kind, let's not argue over which please!). I got a dog and from day one I never wanted to be the kind of owner that had an obnoxious ill-mannered, spoiled brat of a dog. But it is work. Through reading countless books, dealing with my 3 dogs (2 pit mixes), watching a variety of shows (Cesar, It's me or the Dog, and so on), going to obedience classes with a trainer (she has shown shelties and dobies and trains police dogs), I feel that I do have some knowledge of things and simply what to share what has and has not worked for me.
After reading countless I want to breed my cutsie wootsie mutt with my neighbor's ten times bigger bulldog, (while I was always a proponent of it), and after seeing the Utube video on pet over-population (don't watch it unless you want to be so enraged or bawling your head off), I am now a huge proponent of spaying and neutering your pets. If more people did this (alas, I am attempting to either preach to the choir or wasting my breathe on ignorant uneducated people), then pet overpopulation would not be an issue.
So - fun, frustration, and help is why I am here.

I just asked a similar question? And i am lost as to how people vote on here and don't offer real help they are more in fact aiding problems that people are having. I have worked with dogs and animals my whole life i have a certified security dog that i have trained and is now getting certified as a search and rescue dog. She started as working dog at the age of 2 which is the minimum age for therapy work. I feel i have good info that can help in training but yet any info i provide people here like to spoil their animals and neglect what is good for the dog. So i am throwing in the towel because i don't care to help people that don't really want help and just want justification that the tactics they use are correct and cant figure out why their dogs have bad habits.
ADDITION: the reason i keep coming back is i love animals and hope that 1 out of 100 people that dont like my answer because it involves work on thier behalf actually does listen and changes their ways to provided a better home for their animal.

How did I find Yahoo Dogs?
I can;t rememeber exactly. I know I Googled for something or other and came across and answer from here. Clicked in the link for dogs and as i already had a Yahoo acount thought I would answer a few.
Do you think I help people?
I sure do try.
Or do you think it's just a game?
Certainly not a game although I did have fun with a few questions posted the other day that someone put up as a joke. I also have fun on another board where it's just about having fun.
I've made some real good friends and learned a lot myself since I have been here.

Cause someone's gotta tell the idiots breeding their dogs every day to STOP doing it and to go visit their local shelters for the explanation why!
That and because there are at times some really sincere questions from folks just wanting to do the best thing for their dog or even as far as "what dog should I get?"
It's the Internet; Nobody knows you're just a dog.

The first time I came here was when I had a question about dogs. I keep going back because everyone is so nice. And I can't help but want to look at all the dog avatars, they're so cute!

There are a lot of very interesting questions here ~~ like this one.
And Right now I'm pretty board with life.
It is too bloddy hot outside and my 11/2 year old shepherd is not playing as much because of the heat.
So we're just hangin' out, checking out the questions on Yahoo ~~~ never know ~~~ might help someone !!!!
Or just make them laugh :)

I've had "A" dog and often 2 or three dogs since the day I was born (my first dog was born the day before me) and I have raised a few breeds along the long 70 years of my life and I know that if you live to be 100 you will never know all there is about ANY subject. That just means that maybe someone here has had some experiences that are different from any we have encountered and we may learn something new now and then as well as give advice from our own experiences. As well as informative, it's also fun, game or no game.
Best wishes to all here who are owned by dog, be they purebred or adopted UMs.

Hi Golden, Hopefully I could help at least one person. Yahoo sent me an email & that is how I came across it. Since I love dogs so much "yahoo dogs" was the first category I went to. I don't think it is a game at all. If I want to come to Yahoo Answers just for fun I go to Polls and Surveys.
I keep coming back because I know I will help someone & I have acquired a few real good friends on here!!!

Once in awhile I've had the same experience with my dogs that other people are asking about. Mostly, I like to read other people's questions and answers and have learned a lot from some of them, you included!!

I came to Yahoo dogs because of a small puppy that was found out in my parking lot. Sad to say the little girl didn't make it but I came here for answers on how to raise such a small animal. It is also a great place to network.
