my almost three year old chihuahua scratches himself to severe bleeding! the blood is on the carpet, on his bed, on walls, and on his fur and body! he scratches his ears especially and under his arms and his tummy. i went to the vet and they do not know the specific problem but suggested an ant-itch spray. but it did not work... i tried the spray, those cone collars, flea collars, dulling his nails, doctor recommended pills. but nothing works! he does not have fleas. the doctor clearly stated that. i went to over 5 vets and they all don't know the problem! i

what kind of food are you feeding him? is it something that he could be having an allergy to because that's what it sounds like. i know alot of dogs have allergies to wheat so you could always try a wheat free food. I feed my dogs Natural Choice Lamb and Rice (you can get it at alot of petstores petsmart petco etc.) It's guaranteed to improve skin and coat and it has worked great with my dogs. it's worth a try especially if your vet/vets cant seem to give you any advice. It costs about $25 for a 20 lb. bag but it's easily worth it if it works. Hopefully i helped ya out some.

by the way if you want to learn more about the food go to www.nutroproducts.com

Could be allergy related, it is a long road to determine if it is, it is a process of elimination over possibly a year, has your dog had a skin scrapping at the vets??? if not, have it done, also there is a condition called syringomylea, it causes severe scratching, head shaking, it is most common in Cavalier king charles, but other dogs can get it too, your pet will need to get an MRi scan to determine if he has it, other than that, try a product called Stronghold, this is a flea protection drop, your pet may not have fleas, but he may be allergic to insect bites, also this is prescribed for dogs with skin conditions, such as early stage mange etc, hope you find the cause.

Its odd that you went to all those vets , and not one can diagnose the problem . I am pretty sure that your dog is experiencing an allergic reaction . A big majority of small or toy breed dogs have skin problems. I'm sorry your dog is uncomfortable, I really wish I could see him. I know you feel like theres no hope. I can only suggest something to calm the itching. LIQUID BENADRYL is ths best relief for your baby. But only once every 12 hrs. and use the dosing chart on the bottle to your dogs weight. EXAMPLE------ if it states 1cc per 10 lbs. only give him 1/2 the amount . Trust me, I am a Vet. Tech, Also Aveno Oatmeal Fragrence Free for baths. best of luck & I look forward to hearing about his progress.
