As with most of the answers you have already received, could be an infection of many kinds, best to get it checked out by a vet. 2 weeks ago I had my cat put down due to heart failure from a Tumor, a few months before she was peeing in the house at night, very unlike her, we thought she was just getting old, so we put her out at night. I wish I had taken her to the vets then, It could be just a small sign that something else could be wrong. Don't make the same mistake as me, take time to have your dog checked. It could be old age, but at least you won't have any regrets, and you will know you did all you could for your dog. It might be as simple as some medication to stop your dog from peeing on the rugs. Good Luck, I hope everything goes well at the vets.

When my GSD turned 11 yrs old he started leaving wet spots where he had been laying. He was neutered at 6 yrs old after I was done showing him. I took a urine sample to my vet and he was diagnosed with a leak problem. He was put on Proin, cost under $20 a month, and it cleared up. My g/f's 12 yr old mini Dach is also on it with great results. He was also neutered at around 6 yrs old so it is not just neutered as young dogs that develop leak problems.

Could be a bladder infection, weak bladder, arthritis making him wait to go until he can't hold it because it hurts to get up, and dogs do get senile like we do, if he's a large breed dog he's old enough for that to happen... there's medication available to treat each of these problems BTW, so it may be worth asking the vet about.

It might be old and nearing the end of it's days... Might have an infection or something that's causing this peeing thing. After all these years, don't you owe it to it to find out if it is more than just old age?

My friends old dog was potty trained. Would never do any thing wrong. Never put buisness in the house. Is it a small dog. My small dog(a pomeranain) cant hold his blatter for that long. They should be let out atleast once every couple of hours if a small dog.

It could be a kidney or bladder infection, kidney failure,or diabetes, among other things.Just take some of his urine to the vet to be checked, and if they find anything wrong, they will advise you to bring the dog in for further testing (bloodwork.)

He's getting along in years. Could be an old age related physical problem. I'd take him to a vet, he could have a urinary tract infection.
