My sisters dog recently had to be put down because she "suddenly" became very ill. She started out drinking more than usual. Then less than a week later, she develops a high fever and starts having convulsions. My sister had her in the vet every day and they told her her immune system broke down due to the stress of them having to move. I say "BULL"! She was a VIBRANT, HEALTHY animal with many years ahead of her! Is it possible she was poisened? Please help! We would like some answers!

I just got a new pet chihuahua on friday, and his tail has been down ever since..(3 days). It is up outside, I think he is kinda scared of my dog but he does it when my dog isnt around too. He trusts me alot, and he always runs to me when hes scared.. Do you think he was abused? I recieved him from a military family, and he was very well cared for...They got him frmo a breeder. I love him and I dont understand what is wrong. It was up when it was around my grandmas dog (he likes her!)..please help. Im so confused right now.. Is it just because he's scared of the new environment?(no diarrhea or anything, and he acts fine) he is a real skittish boy though

We take our animals everywhere with us, but This malamute female is making things so difficult. When ever we take her to a hotel with us, she tears up the room and howls non stop until we return. We love her and dont want to get rid of her but we are an active family and we need her to be okay with going out often. We have left her home before and she tore up our wood door, ripped the carpet and shredded furniture. I have had people tell me when you have an animal like this theres no hope, they have screws loose. We just really love her and shes a perfect angel when we are around. Any advice is appreciated.

We have a 2 year old child and we're looking into getting a dog. Some people we know have a 4 month old boxer cross that they need a home for. I'm just wondering how they are with kids, if they are smart and if they get much bigger than a medium sized do.

i mean think about it.......... before dogs were domesticated they ate raw meats from dead animals (you know, the food chain cuisine), so is it really ok to feed dogs leftover type meals? maybe leftover beefstew? spaghetti and meatballs? those types of things? i know people (in brasil) who feed their dogs a mix of leftovers with dry chow.... their dogs have been alive for years upon years.... ????

I'm going on vacation for a week starting tomorrow, my dog (a golden retriever, 3 months old) will be home alone. I left enough food out for it, it can drink water from the toilet bowl, and it is housetrained to go on newspaper. Do you think it would be ok?

I asked my next door neighbor about this being ok, and he was quite worried and offered to stop in and take care of it. However, I don't want to give anyone the keys to MY HOUSE, especially if they are acting so desperate, so I declined.

I currently have a lab (just turn 1 year old) and would really like to get her a friend. I have 2 opportunities for choices - another lab from an upcoming litter from our breeder or a boston from a close friend.

I think a smaller dog would be easier to handle, but I can't help but think that another lab is also a great idea. I have always wanted a boston but would also like another lab.

Are boston's hyper? Affectionate? Hard to train? ANy experience would help!
Please help - I'm torn!

P.S. This is a great site and thanks in advance :)

I was thinking about adopting a pitbull at a shelter and I was looking at some of the dogs available for adoption and at the bottom of the web page it said "The animals featured on our web page are available for adoption on first come first serve basis" does that mean the dogs on their web page are available for imediate adoption? like you can take the dog home imediatly?

I am trying to find a replacement dog for my kids. We had a large dog (about 80 lbs). She died of old age, but she was the most wonderful dog, esp with the kids. I have a 4 yr old and a 13 year old. My husband works out of town a lot. Someone tried to break in on us while we were at home. My oldest is scared without a large dog in the house. I was wondering if I should get a mastiff. If so, what kind? I heard they were great with kids. Our other option is a lab/akita mix my son fell in love with at a rescue pound. Which would be best? If neither, what would you recommend? I want a dog that will stay in the house mostly, play with and protect the children, but not chew everything in the house. Our last dog was a walker/lab/bloodhound mix. Please help!

I have a 4-5 month old pit bull puppy and she bites A LOT, mostly during playtime. Whenever we try to reprimand her (mouth clamped, scruffing, simple "No Bite") she get's even more violent and will go out of her way to bite and lunge at me. I don't want to lock her in her crate because I've been told to not let your dog associate her crate with punishment. I don't want to wait for her to grow out of this and I don't want a stereotypical violent Pit Bull when I know they can be much more than that. I want a good dog now! I'm worried that maybe this has been bred into her. Help!!
