I think your vet can answer your questions and concerns far better than we can here. Good luck with your dog, and I am so sorry he is ill, but he HAS lived a full life. Enjoy what time you have left with him and try to do all you can to make him as happy and comfortable as possible.

Just signs of getting old. You might have him check out to see how his over haul health is. I have a 13 year old one..she can't see as well and her hearing isn't as sharp as it once was, but she still going strong. He teeth is in sad shape, but I won't let the vet work on them because she is 13 years old as long as she is eating good I am not going to worry about it..Oh heck she will be 14 next month. She is doing darn good for 14. I know how hard it could be, but don't let him suffer. I had to put one down that was almost 18 because I had to sit her up on a pillow to breath..Not a way for a dog to live. Aren't Shih Tzu's the sweetest dogs.

I think it's time for your dog to go in for a checkup. They need heartworm tests in the spring anyway. The wheezing/gurgling/choking sounds like he needs to have his chest listened to. Old dogs, like old people, sometimes need meds to help them regulate and it may be the case here. Keep a list of questions/concerns that you are having and make note of things like whether or not he makes his strange noises during exercise or while resting. Are his eating/drinking/bathroom habits the same or changed? collect this information while you wait for his vet appointment. the more your vet knows the more questions you'll get answered. best of luck.

I hate to state the obvious----take the dog to a VET. Explain the symptoms and let them conduct some blood tests and a physical exam. No one is going to be able to help you on here..not even a veterinarian. Any vet would want to conduct a physical exam and see the dog in person. Make an appointment.

take him to the vet for a check up,you would'nt want your dog to suffer anymore than he has too.although it's sad that your dog is getting old,be grateful for the time you have left with him, having any animal for a long time you get very attached.try not to be too sad because his had a good life with you, and im sure is very much loved. maybe he is getting a cold!!!! get him checked out anyway...... good luck!!!!
