I have sedatives, for occasions like the 4th of July and New Years Eve, when I know there will be fireworks etc. But thunder and the occasional car backfiring are unpredictable, I can't just keep him drugged all the time. Any ideas you have will be appreciated

My 6 month old Lab puppy had a small umbilical hernia. The vet pointed it out to us on her first exam but said it was small, nothing to worry about. We had her spayed 8 days ago and did not know we should have asked to have the hernia repaired as well - nor did the vet suggest it. Now, the hernia appears to be larger - protrusion is bigger and very very tender to the touch. The hernia is right above her incision. Could this just be tenderness from the surgery or could her hernia be worse now? Will it heal on its own? I wish I had researched it better before her surgery - I would have insisted the vet repair it then. Also, I 'm a little annoyed the vet didn't suggest that herself. Thanks for any adivce anyone may have.

What do I do? He is almost 2, and he has always been the ideal dog. He is a toy Schnauzer, great with kids, great disposition. I absolutely love him. 2 weeks ago he nipped my friend daughter on the face and today he nipped a little girl on the arm. WHY is he doing this.

I have noticed when he was groomed last time that they nicked his ears and it got infected. I thought that might be bothering him.

My husband wants me to get rid of him so we don't get sued. What else can we do so he won't bite? HELP!!!

My golden retriever scares me to death when I take him on walks. He will either stop in the middle of the street or won't cross it. I had to pick him up once and carry him across the street because a car was comming. Does anyone have any suggestion of why I should do to cure this problem?

i know that there are similar questions but i was hoping yall could help me out with my particular problem. i have a 1 year dachsund/shih tzu and we wanted to get her a friend, so we got a 10 week old jack russell terrier/chihuahua/beagle puppy to keep her company (we got her yesterday). i would really like for them to be (for lack of a better word) friends. the puppy wants to play with the 1-year old and sometimes theyll sniff each other, but mostly, when i put them together, the 1 year old wil sit to the side and the puppy will come to me. the puppy wil often come and sniff the 1 year old, but the older dog acts scared of the puppy and will not really come near her and moves whenever the puppy comes near her. we have tried to give the older dog more affection so she wont get jealous, but she does not have a dominant personality so we dont know if she is jealous, feeling left out or anything. do you think this is something to be waited out?

So I adopted him at the SPCA. It said that he is a Golden retriever. I searched the WEB to find out more and most Websites say that if the have a bit of black hair it's a fault. What does that mean? My dog has a tiny bit of black hair on ears and tail. Does that mean he is not a Golden retriever?

On a 'Tyra Banks' show, i came across a dog that was a mix between a labrador and a poodle (labradoodle/labrapoodle).
However, what shocked me is that they said it had been genetically modified to be hypoallergenic. Should we waste money on playing around with dog genes so people don't sneeze, when all around us there are others in great need of food, water, medical supplies and clothing.

I have a 10lb dachsaund who thinks she is a 100 doberman. nothing stops her! we usually have a frisbee for herself, but when my bf and i throw ours, she wants ours! and she will run back and forth between us to catch it, although we dont let her. She will do this ALL day while breathing heavy and foaming at the mouth. (we feed her water out of the frisbee). non stop, i always think she's gonna have a heart attack! but she insists on going and going back and forth hundreds of times! Is this bad for her? could she collapse or something scary? i hate leaving her at home when we go out to play frisbee, but she gets so nuts for it and it scares me that she will over work herself. any answers are appreciated!

The other day i was at a friend`s house and his dog gave me what i can only describe as an angry look. He stared at me like he was about to pounce on me and bite my head off - no small dog either ! I felt a bit scared i`ll admit, and my friend said to the dog, "hey why you lookin at her like that ? " I thought god it`s not just me then, he`s noticed as well ! Then strangely, the dog came and laid at my feet, really made himself comfortable and laid out full length at my feet ! Then my friend said, "Aw look he likes you. " I`m female and the dog is male, and my friend is male if that means anything, and he`s a platonic friend so the dog obviously not jealous or anything, we were just standing in the kichen talking. He is a staffordshire bull terrior. Any ideas what might have been going on there ? Not that i fancy him or anything, so no vibes there to be picked up by the dog.( i mean i don`t fancy my friend not the dog. No i don`t fancy the dog either - definately not.)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- North Bergen, NJ -- March 23, 2007 -- Petrapport, Inc. is voluntarily recalling pig ear dog treats it imported from a Chilean company during the period August 2006 through December 2006 because the pig ears have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious infections in dogs, and, if there is cross contamination, young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Laboratory testing has confirmed that samples of Full-Cut Pig Ears dog treats sold by BJ's Wholesale Club in 25-count packages under the "Berkley & Jensen" brand with no lot number and only the expiration advisory "BEST IF USED BY 2009" (without referencing a specific month) were contaminated with Salmonella. Additional testing of other pig ear dog treats from shipments during the above time period has not revealed any additional evidence of Salmonella contamination, but Petrapport nonetheless is voluntarily recalling them out of an abundance of caution due to concern that the pig ears imported during this period may not have been effectively irradiated for Salmonella before shipment from Chile.

The voluntary recall includes dog treats sold by BJ's Wholesale Club in its 25-count packages of "Berkley & Jensen" Full-Cut Pig Ears dog treats with no lot number and only the expiration advisories "BEST IF USED BY 2009" (without referencing a specific month) as well as "BEST IF USED BY SEPTEMBER 2009," "BEST IF USED BY OCTOBER 2009," "BEST IF USED BY NOVEMBER 2009," and "BEST IF USED BY DECEMBER 2009."

Also included within this voluntary recall are the following lots of pig ear dog treats sold in bulk by other retailers under the "Petrapport" brand:

Salmonella can potentially be transferred to people handling these dog treats, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the product or any surfaces exposed to these products. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Dogs that become ill from Salmonella generally will have a fever and diarrhea that may contain blood or mucus. Affected animals may seem more tired that usual, and may have vomiting. Some dogs do not have diarrhea, but will have decreased appetite, fever and excess salivation. If your dog has consumed the recalled product and is exhibiting these signs, please contact your veterinarian.

While there have been no confirmed illnesses to date, consumers should immediately stop feeding these treats to their dogs. These products have been removed from the sales floors and the sales inventories of all retailers.

Consumers who purchased any of the above-identified pig ear dog treats should discontinue use of the products and may return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Consumers who have further questions may contact Petrapport at 800-447-3872 extension 110.

First question is , my mom has a chihuahua. She is fixed now, but still very active and cranky at times. She snips and bites someitimes.
Second question is this.. we have a Boston Terrier/Border Collie and he snores. Is this normal? He has done this since he was a baby. I don't think anything is wrong, but we find it kinda funny, coz he can sure snore loud.
