Male dogs get nuetured. Female dogs get spayed. Male dogs mostly get nuetered to stop deaseses and to prevent dominence or marking of teretory. They also wont be able to mate. Females get spayed to prevent health problems and to make sure she doesn't have babies.

Neutered is a castrated male
Spayed is a female who has had her uterus and ovaries removed.
Both would be considered altered or fixed.
