An English Bulldog isn't really that big but, from your question, it sounds like you want a dog that is comfortable indoors. Take a look at a Pug or a Boston Bulldog. Both of these breeds are friendly and very popular right now.

Not all Bulldogs get big although you really won't know that until it is grown. The female usually tend to be smaller than the males but not always. I have a male and a female, the male is around 70 pounds and the female is around 36-40 pounds. If you want to go for the same look but in a smaller size you could look into French Bulldogs or even Pugs.

A French Bulldog is smaller, but dosen't quite have that same "It's so ugly, it's cute" face. There is also the Pug.

french bulldogs.they're so cute, same facial structure but with erect pointy ears and they are much much smaller!
