check out akc and look through the internet. Do you know what a reputable breeder is? A lot of people dont, I would look into what a reputable breeder should offer and paperwork they should have. Then once you find a breeder will be able to tell whether or not they are a good one.

The Regional Coordinator for your area can be found on the club website - they will be able to advise you and put you in touch with cavalier breeders: http://www.thecavalierclub.co.uk/start.html
Check out the Kennel Club website and you will find contacts of breeders with current litters. They'll be happy to talk to you even if you are not yet ready for a puppy. Remeber that most reputable and established breeders with already have most of their puppies homed before they are even born and you may be put on a waiting list. Don't be shy about arranging to visit breeders and meet their dogs before putting your name down for a pup in a future litter.
You can also visit shows and meet breeders with their dogs. The cavalier club website will tell you when the upcoming shows are scheduled.
Its always worthwhile remembering that just because a pup comes from a fantastic breeder with amazing dogs it won't neccessarily be a better pet and companion than a local family whose ***** has had its first litter. Just make sure that the parents have had their health screenings and that the puppies have been raised in a lively environment and you will have a wonderful confident puppy.
Good luck!

Well i breed bearded Collies, so i can very well answer your question. Simply google search dog breeders. Or look in the paper. Are you looking for a show dog? If so, call one of the breeders you find, and ask them if they know of anyone that can reference you to a show dog breeder. If not, still just ask other breeders for references. If more than one breeder points to another, you have a very reputable breeder on your hands. NO MATTER WHAT, dont buy a dog from a puppy store. Those dogs do not come under any circumstances from reputable breeders. Although many people may be told there store bought puppy came from a breeder, in many countries, including america, canada, and the UK, breeders are not at all allowed to sell there dogs to a puppy store.
Hope this helped

you've got the right idea by visiting the breeders first, (your own eyes can't lie to you) if the pups are kept in a shed, ask if they are handled regulary. If you bump into anyone with the breed of dog you like ask them where they got theirs, and if they liked the place, word of mouth is best form advertisment for these people.
If you get a good book on dogs there should be a section to help you to choose a puppy and how to spot a good breeder

Always buy through a breed club, especially in a breed like Cavaliers where there are far too many pet breeders who do not test for health problems and do not know enough to breed only from typical healthy specimens. This site will give you details:
