We have a 2 year old child and we're looking into getting a dog. Some people we know have a 4 month old boxer cross that they need a home for. I'm just wondering how they are with kids, if they are smart and if they get much bigger than a medium sized do.

Boxers are a good family dog but since this one is a cross, it is very hard to know what you will end up with. Is it possible for you to spend some time with this dog before making a decision?

You can read more about Boxers here - http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/boxer-dog-training.html

Good luck with your decision.

I have a boxer who will be 1 in a few days, but don't have any kids yet.

Boxers are good dogs with kids. Boxers are a medium breed dog, but most people think of them as a large breed. They can get up to 70 lbs. Boxers are a smart breed and very cheerful/playful. They do need training because of their puppy friskeyness, but adapt very well.

I have found some great info on there.

They are very protective and grow to be very big. I have friends who have had boxers and they love them. They can be a bit clumsy and messy with their slobber slinging it all over the place when they get excited. They are good dogs but probably not as calm as a golden retriever or a lab. I'd recommend a golden retriver or a lab. I'd be a little concerned because boxers are so big and clumsy and can do things by accident like probably knock over a small child very easily. They are smart - great with older kids. But I wouldn't recommend them with a 2 year old. You could do a GREAT job and take alot of time on training him - since he is little - getting them young and training them would be better than getting an adult and expecting them to adjust.

You don't say what the dog is crossed with but I have a Boxer/Jack Russell mix and I really can't imagine a sweeter dog with kids. She just adores them and they adore her. Every Boxer I've known has been good with kids as well. Of course, every dog is different. Spend some time with the dog and see what you think. If it passes that test, then see how he or she is with your child.

i just got a boxer because when i was a child my parents had a boxer and they are WONDERFUL with kids! They are very playful. I take my boxer to my boyfriends moms house and she has three grandchildren all under the age of 4. They love her and she loves to play with them. They are very intellegent and they dont get that big. You can tell by the size of their paws a round about how big they will get. But they get about the size of a lab maybe smaller.

boxers make very sweet, dedicated, gentle pets. However, you need to take into considerations that boxers have a bad health background. They are the number one breed for developing cancer and are known to live shorter lives than the majority of large breed dogs. (Usually around 8 years) Of course each boxer is different, but the majority have health issues due to over breeding. They can get pretty large, but few are aggressive.

they are rather great, hyper dogs. With toddlers and a huge, hyper dogs, there is often a danger the do will knock over, play too tough, and so on and by twist of destiny harm the toddler. i does not propose the breed for a kinfolk with little ones below the age of 10. This breed isn't many times aggressive, yet no breed is truthfully born aggressive, they are made that way. ALL breeds would desire to be precise knowledgeable, socialized and cared for. many times this breed is sweet and stupid. confident, boxers slobber an excellent bit.

my sister has a boxer and shes had it for awhile and he's the best! But she got another boxer puppy and was bad he bit her mom so her mom made her give him away. So she got another one and he's an angel. So it all depends on personality. With most dogs if a baby/child is there first they'll be fine.

Boxers make wonderful pets...if it is a cross depends...cross with what? Just give it lots of love and attention and exercise and you should have a wonderful pet. They can get big, but it is usually genetics..depending on the parents, the male and the female ...But whatever your bring into your home as a pet, please watch and be careful with a small child about.
