My sisters dog recently had to be put down because she "suddenly" became very ill. She started out drinking more than usual. Then less than a week later, she develops a high fever and starts having convulsions. My sister had her in the vet every day and they told her her immune system broke down due to the stress of them having to move. I say "BULL"! She was a VIBRANT, HEALTHY animal with many years ahead of her! Is it possible she was poisened? Please help! We would like some answers!

I would suspect she was poisoned by some pet food involved in the recent pet food scandal. Those are the symptoms of kidney failure in dogs that they have been reporting. Just search pet food recall for a complete list of companies involved. I was surprised to see Iams and Eukanuba on the list.

This vet probably doesn't want to acknowledge that this was the cause of the dog's illness, because soon there will be all kinds of lawsuits going on over this, and attorneys will be serving subpoenas for records from vets, etc. Tell your sister to get a copy of the treatment record now and to request that the doctor reconsider the cause of death or whatever for her own benefit. If she has some unopened dog food left in her house and it matches one of the brands on the list, she might show this to the vet and have him document it on the record.

We trust these companies to provide nutritious safe food for our pets, and they carelessly allowed this to happen. Flour from China!

Symptoms are: increased urination, unwillingness to eat, increased thirst, and lethargy. How long ago was this? I just read about a couple different dogs that had the same symptoms and the owners think that it had something to do with the food. This happened back in December and the dogs were all fed some kind of Nutro food, I think lamb and rice. They said it is not necessarily connected to this poisoning, but it's strange that now with this recall Nutro wet foods are recalled.

I'm sorry, I didn't notice where you went to vet school? Oh, wait, YOUR NOT A VET! So if you think this vet is wrong, go get a second opinion from ANOTHER VET!
I'm not saying your wrong. There could be poisoning involved. But the ONLY person who will validate your claims will have a DVM or VMD after their name. And DO look into the pet food poisoning issues from Menu foods and look to see if your pet's food is on the list http://www.menufoods.com/recall/

I've had my miniature dachshund move with me around from too many houses than I can remember. This could be the case, depending on how emotionally attached the dog was to the home, and how old the dog was. If she was an old timer, this could be possible. Old dogs getting stressed out and moving can cause these sorts of situations. I've never heard of dogs moving and that killing them, but vets know more than me. She very well could have been poisoned, that would explain her dying. This sort of puzzles me, I'd check with another vet and see if stress from moving could cause a dog to die. This seems doubtful to me. Good luck, I'm sorry for your loss :(

Check out the food recall list and see if the food she was feeding her dog is on it.

If it is, she sadly was poisoned. Make sure to tell the dog's vet, and find out who to report the loss due if it is due to the food.

You can find a link to the recall list on my home page.

What food were you feeding her? If it was on the list then yes the dog was poisoned.
