I think she may have eaten something outside. We feed her dry food so its not anything from the recall. I cant afford to take her to the vet until next week and i am very worried.

I read a question about crates for dogs? Someone suggested leaving the dog in a crate while at work. Thats like 8 hours. Dogs are extremely busy animals, like humans! Could you imagine being locked up for 8 hours in a crate?

Why get a dog if you dont have a yard or a house to keep it in?

Do you think its cruel to keep a dog in a crate? Or not really?

(It's SOO strange the things i hear on yahoo answers, no one i've heard of over here in australia, uses crate training. I'd never even heard of declawing a cat until i got on here)

i have a 2 yr old labrador that majority of the people in my neighborhood are scared of. he barks at strangers and is protective of me and my family. we have caught people throwing stuff at him when he is outside chained up to do his duty, as well as some of the neighborhood children teasing him . we have asked them to stop and have talked to the children's parents about the situation. with summer coming, he will probably be outside a lot more. i can not move his chain because the tree that we were using to tie him up on was cut down. he is a strong dog and the only other thing we could move him to is a young tree that i fear he would pull up easily. for a bit of background--he is on a tow chain, with about a 10ft length, and clip rated for 1,000+lbs, he has broke many chains and clips in the past. he almost pulled down a fence post that was cemented into the ground (that was at about 7 months) a fenced yard is not an option as we rent and the dog downstairs does not get along w/ him.

We just adopted two 3-month old Shepard/Rott mixed puppies from the Animal Shelter. They were spayed and neutered today. I brougth them home and noticed that while they were napping, Niko, my boy, was breathing extremely hard. He is napping now and still breathing faster than normal. What could be wrong? Should I make an appointment to get him checked out?

TIA

I have a 6 month old maltese and a year old cat. And they both have fleas. Im going to use frontline for my dog (boe) and what do others reccommend for the cat? When i do use these things how many times will i need to use it before all the fleas are gone? Also once i get them off the dog and cat, is there anything else that i need to do to the house. And summer is right around the corner, will they get the fleas back?
Please help me :) i cant wait to get rid of these nasty bugs!!

My seven month old puppy developed what appears to be an abcess in her upper jaw and facial swelling in the cheek area. X-rays show excessive bone growth forming.

We have a Shihtzpoo puppy (3/4's Shihtzu and 1/4 poodle!) who is 5 months old and in the chewing stage. In addition to the normal cookies and pigs ears.. he seems to enjoy chewing on the tough ends of asparagus! Is there any reason NOT to let him chew them? Years ago I had a poodle who loved to eat cabbage and it never seemed to hurt him any.

If anyone else has a veggie loving dog I'd like to hear about that too :)

I have a 4 month old male Pekingese puppy. I have tried everything I can think of to housetrain him. Tried scented puppy training pads (which he was going on when we got him.)
After we got him home he refused to go on them, even if we fenced him in a small area covered completely with them. He would only go when placed back in his crate. We tried taking away the crate and leaving him in the small fenced off area in our kitchen most of the time. He held it so long that he got a bad infection that made him dribble urine constantly. He needed 2 weeks of treatment at the vet hospital to get over it.
Once home again, he refused to go on the pads, finally, he'd
dig through them and go on the floor underneath.
So, I tried newspaper instead. Same result.
We've tried watching for circling & sniffing but he wont go if we hold him where we want him to potty.
Also, now, if he is picked up he will pee and crap on whom ever picks him up, even if he has just went. Advice please ?

My 5 month old long coat chi's ears are still not up. Both of her parents ears stood up just fine. She's still going through her teething stage and her ears are only 2/3's the way up. My breeder suggested that I use Nexcare tape, fold them vertically and tape them around twice. She looks like she has antennas!! LOL!! I did it last night and this morning I took the tape off and, wa-la, they were up somewhat better! My question is this: have anyone of you done this and got the results you were looking for?
