I'd disagree with the answer above that states food has nothing to with it, as the other posters have said, many brands of wet foods have contained rat poison and killed pets. If you have been feeding the dog this mixture for some time, it's possible that the death is a result of eating the contaminated food 2-3 days ago, and not the food he ate in the past half hour.
Also, pet food testing might or might not be more strigent, but considering that Peanut Butter, Lettuce, and Spinach (and what else?) has been recalled in the past 6 months for e-coli and other problems, that isn't saying much, huh?
Go to your vet for an autopsy, then call a lawyer if you need to.
I'm sorry for your loss!

Your dog may have eaten contaminated food. Natural Choice was one of the brands that were recalled, but you would need the cans of the food to look at the UPC code and find out. A large pet store like PetSmart or PetCo would be able to help you determine if your food was in a recall batch.
Then you would need a Vet to see what caused the dogs death. Get everything documented because there are already lawsuits starting from owners who lost pets.
You need to document this though.

This goes back to the menu foods recall of March 16. Some of the Nutro Natural Choice cans and pouches were recalled. The food affected are all in gravy. Nutro recommends that you not feed any of their cuts and gravy style food no matter when you bought it. Ultra, Max and Natural Choice were all recalled.
Pedigree is safe as is it manufactured by a different company. Pedigree has sent out emails to people to let them know that their food was safe.
I would contact menu foods and let them know that your dog is gone.

The food recall did include these brands, but the affected dogs died of kidney failure. That takes longer than 30 minutes.
Did the dog seem sick at all?
Bloat is a condition that kills that quickly. Right after eating, the stomach and intestines get tangled up which cuts off blood circulation and causes infection. It kills in 30-45 minutes.
Only a vet can tell you what killed your dog.
Sorry for your loss.

Contact the company and find out if the food was on the recalled list. If you hadn't heard a lot of pets have died from poisoned dog food lately. Many brands were affected.

Pet food is more stringently tested than human food. I would say the food did not relate to the death. Go to a vet if you want to know cause of death.
I am sorry for your loss.

It's time to stop trusting the well being of your pet to just anyone who makes a pet food. If you are feeding commercially prepared pet foods, you need to listen closely.
Did you know that the FDA does not regulate the pet food industry?
Did you also know that most commercial pet foods are made from less than human quality ingredients.
Did you know that most pet foods bought in the store have been sitting around for as long as 18 months before you buy it?
Did you know that dogs and cats have the genetic potential to live 20 - 25 years but we are robbing those years from their lives with cheap pet foods.
Here are just a few of the procedures that we follow to provide your pet with a safe and nutritious product.
All the products are manufactured in a USDA facility.
All of our ingredients are individually inspected for human quality and carry the APHIS certification (a European standard for human quality ingredients)
Every vendor must supply an 'assurance statement' with each shipment. This statement must provide nutritional quality of ingredient provided AND must state it is free from any mold, bacteria, and so forth.
Dr. Jane has the ingredients tested AGAIN before manufacturing to make sure the quality is as stated AND it meets her standards
The product is tested 3 times during the manufacturing process - to again assure everything is 'as it should be'.
The product is tested again after manufacturing and again when it arrives at the warehouse.
One bag of food is kept at the warehouse - from each batch - to test in case a Customer has a problem or concern with the product. Each 'one bag' from each batch is kept for 1 full year.
The products are shipped directly from HealthyPetNet's warehouse to the Customer - no middleman warehousing (concerns of proper storage and pest control).
Can you say all of that about your current brand of pet food? Probably not. As I stated earlier, this is not a shameless attempt to capitalize on a tragedy, it is vital information that can save pets lives.
Don't let your pet be another statistic. Please give our products a try today. Don't wait! For your protection, we are not sold in stores, you must purchase online for fresh and safe home delivery http://www.HealthyPetFoodBiz.com

David Tantanella

it could be a variety of things. your dog could have choked on the food without you knowing it, or your dog might have been allergic to the new food you were giving him. or it may not have had anything to do with the food - your dog might have had a heart condition that you didn't know about. your vet can give you the best guess.

because all the smells intertwine when they cook and smell good. it's not hard to make food smell good. it's harder to make food taste good. my neighbors are full chinese i believe doubt they came from America but their house is a total pig sty. theirs crap they bring home from work all over their front yard and back yard and it's all broken things like tables, fridge, washing machines,etc.. but from time to time when they are cooking it smells really good. but i highly doubt it tastes that good. why? just walk infront of their door step and you will understand why theirs craps everywhere including dead plants/animals decaying like fish. Im sure they don't shop at a real grocery store either but the local china town and everyone in my state knows the china town isn;t very good for groceries as it's been known to carry rats and it isn't even that tasty. that being said don't let the smells fool you.
