Ive been told from all directions that I must train my puppy to go potty outside, but I live in a townhouse and my front door is down a flight of stairs. The problem with that is my puppy is 7 weeks old and is yet too small to go down the stairs! How do I train him to let me know he has to go outside? The stairs are blocked off by a baby gate, will he just know to sit at the gate when he needs to go potty? He is my first puppy and Im having a hard time figuring out my best plan of action. I appreciate any help, thanks!

i just got a 2-yr old female boxer from a friend who is moving and unfortunately cant bring the dog w/ him. she's been at home for 2 days already. the bad news is i have 2 other dogs already (also female and cross breeds) and they keep on fighting with the new settler. now they are on separate parts of the house since they always bark and fight. i know dogs are territorial, but long will this last? is there anything i can do to make them get along with each other?

I have a wonderful 4 pound chihuahua who is 15 months old. 90% of the time is a happy sweetheart of a pooch who does no wrong...but when you turn your head just WATCH OUT. He starts running and pounding his front paws on the doggie gate to get out of the room, will get into anything and everything, etc. I know that he knows the difference between what he should touch and shouldn't touch. He won't DARE touch anything (for example, a plate) on the coffee table with me in the room...but the second I leave he is all over it, pulling the plate off and making a mess. Currently I just say a quick "no" and then pick him up, show him the mess and say "no" again. He won't dare touch the mess and turns his head from it to show he wants nothing to do with it...but the moment you leave he is after it again. Short of telling me not to leave a plate on the table, what disciplinary techniques could I use? (I say this because it is not always a plate of food. It could be anything at all.

My 10-month old pom developed a GI disturbance day-before -yesterday--had vomiting & diarrhea the whole night. Also, had fever( cause or effect?) the next day. Gave her a lot of ORS . Settled down 2 a marked degree BUT shivers every now and then, even in sleep, esp. on bending her head down 2 eat. Most importantly, she has withdrawn completely from playing and jumping around ( which earlier no power on earth could stop). Common sense tells me she is recuperating and is still not 100% fit and strong but I want someone more knowledgeable about animals 2 tell me that she will be fine soon.

Ok my puppy who is a 11 week old husky/collie mix is becoming agressive when he comes and starts chwing on my arm...I have been doing some reading and it said this is unnacceptable behavior I know he will chew but I dont want him chewing on me and i have a handicapp brother who he will go and bite! I read an article and it said proper ways ofof teaching a dog not to chew are

firmly taking the puppies jaw and keeping it closed for a few seconds until the puppy whimpers or relaxes ( Idk if this is considered abuse or not..)

Spray bottles..

Isolating the dog for 4-5 minutes...

Ignoreing the dog like the dog may be getting to much attention...

Always praise the dog when the dog has done well...

I dont want my puppy to become an agressive dog.. I wont spank him I do however say No firmly and he always goes and lays down in the corner and it looks like hes shaking and then I get all sad becuz he looks so sad and ugh im frustrated!

heres the article...

Hi - I just brought home a new puppy (maltese) seven days ago. He was fine at first, playing and happy. Thursday night, I turned my back for one sec and he got into the cat food - just a nibble or two before I pulled him away.

It's been two days now of vomiting and diarrhea, & he is not doing much more than sleeping.

I took him to the Vet. He didn't have a fever. The Vet said he most likely has just an upset tummy and gave me some medicine for him.

That was yesterday. He hasn't improved any. I am very worried and nervous. :-(

Any suggestions? He is still drinking his water but he doesn't seem interested in the prescription food the Vet gave me to give him.

First, my girl, Tammy, is 1 year old and (get ready for it) is a Weimaraner x Collie x Afghan Hound x Ridgeback and she mated (accindetally) with my 4 year old male, Trip, a (get ready for this one, too) Dalmatian x Boxer x Irish Wolfhound x Whippet! I know there are a lot of breeds and I know it was irresponsible to go to work while my female was on heat but I had the male outside in my shed and my female inside. I don't know how they got to each other but when I got home, the male was inside the house! Anyway, they successfully mated and my female is now pregant and has been for 8-9 weeks.

I am not sure what I should do for her. I am pretty sure she has started labour but I don't know what to do. Do I butt in and help (if so, help in what way?) or do I leave her alone to do all the work (but take her to the vet if something goes wrong)? What should I have ready for the puppies? I saved up around $500 and arranged a planed c-section with my vet incase something goes wrong.

My 7 week old puppy has worms and as soon as i found the worm in her stool i took her to the vet. I'm just scared that my puppy might not get rid of the worms. Vet says it may take up to a week, but she is so little it really worries me that she may get worse. she sleeps all day but plays and eats the supplements from the vet. Has anyone gone through this and if so was the out come positive?

I currently have a 6 month old male rottie, and I want to get another pup. I'm looking for a breed that is excellent with kids, very laid back and mild mannered. The only breed I can think of is a lab.. But they aren't very laid back (most of them are pretty active). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
