My 7 week old puppy has worms and as soon as i found the worm in her stool i took her to the vet. I'm just scared that my puppy might not get rid of the worms. Vet says it may take up to a week, but she is so little it really worries me that she may get worse. she sleeps all day but plays and eats the supplements from the vet. Has anyone gone through this and if so was the out come positive?

If you have actually seen the worms then your pup has Tapeworm, which is not one of the nastiest worms though unpleasant!
Most tapeworm infestations occur due to the ingestion of a flea so you need to make sure your pup doesn't have fleas.
Treat her with an allwormer now (which I guess the vet did) then treat her with a tapewormer such as popantel tapewormer in 6 weeks time, this wil break the life cycle of the worms.
Make sure you pick up all of her faeces/stools so reinfestation can not occur.
Don't panic your will rid your pup of the parasites!

My first dog had worms... I was only 7 or 8 at the time, but I remember all these thin long white worms squirming around when he pooped. We actually had his sister too (we gave her away later, so she wasn't ours) and she had the same thing. I don't remember what the vet gave us or what we did about it, but they were both just fine... He actually died last year as a very old man of 14. I was little then, but at the time I just thought it was normal and all dogs got worms as puppies. Now I know that's not the case, but I think it's still a common thing that the vets know how to handle. If you notice her get worse, take her to the vet... like if she quits playing and eating... But if she's still acting fine, I wouldn't worry about it. She'll get better. I know it's really hard when you love your pet and want them to be well and happy, but you can take care of her without stressing too much. She'll likely be fine.

Hi there
Don't be too alarmed....My pup had roundworm and the tablet i was given from the vet killed it in her stomach and it came out in her stool already dead...Worm treatments are pretty good at taking care of the worms within a week. Puppies sleep ALOT. Remember they are just like babies....You said she is playing and eating, so that is a good sign that she has no other problems apart from the worms....Keep an eye on her stools over the next week, you should notice them getting back to normal soon. Let us know how you get on. All the best, Nedbella

Puppies are born with worms more than 99% of the time-it's just a disgusting fact of life. She should be dewormed at least 3 times. The dewormers they use are very safe and effective, and if he gave her a dose today, you could see a LOT of worms pass over the next 2 days-don't panic, they're dead. It's good if you see them after a deworming, although disgusting. Don't let her lick your face until she's done being dewormed, there's a small chance you could be infected by a worm that way. They don't usually come back, but she could pick up a new infection from fleas or eating dead things, so keep Frontline on her and don't let her out unsupervised. Heartgard and Interceptor (heartworm pills) both contain medicine to keep intestinal parasites away too.

Well Jess, it just shows the difference between someone who calls themselves a "vet tech" and a LICENSED vet tech : )

Puppies get worms and your vet will know the best treatment for the parasites she has picked up. Its great you got her to the vet and given a little time all will be well. Puppies as a rule are always treated for worms, its just one of the things that has to be done. Even adult dogs occasionally pick up worms and need some medication. The main thing is don't worry to much and keep loving that little pup.

Nearly every puppy out there has worms. As long your vet gave her a wormer, she'll be fine.

If you're really worried bring a fecal sample back to the vet in a couple weeks for testing. This should tell you if the first round of wormer got rid of all the nasty guys.

Nice, a vet tech that doesn't know Tapeworms appear as rice like segments, they don't come out of the dog looking like a worm. If you saw rice like particles, that's a tapeworm, if saw an actual "worm" looking thing, kinda like a cooked spaghetti noodle, chances are it was a round worm.

All puppies have worms. Just make sure to get the appropriate dewormer from your vet...nothing to worry about as long as you follow your vets directions. Do NOT use OTC dewormers they are ineffective and can be dangerous. They also likely aren't for the type(s) of worms you may be dealing with.

If u took a stool sample to the vet and he gave u med. for the type of worms ur puppy has, it will be perfectly fine. She will pass them in her stool after they r dead. All puppies need to be wormed, if u gave the medication as directed, do not worry, all will be fine.

If your puppy has worms go to the vets and a get a shot for it. My dog had it as well. After the shot you can tell it's working because when it poops that's when the worms come out.

Puppies will sleep all day, they are like babies they love to sleep & play. The worms just have to be flushed from her system. No problem, don't worry. Don't let her lick you in the face though until your sure the worms are gone. You don't want them.
