Obedience I would say is a mandatory thing.
1. Sit
2. Stay
3. Down
4. Walk, don't pull on a leash
5. Heel
6. Quiet
7. Very important COME WHEN CALLED
House trained - self explanatory
Chewing on things
1. Give the dog rawhide to chew on
2. Give the dog toys to play with (Play with the dog)
3, Scold the dog when he gets something he shouldn't

I think it is important to socialize him/her. Every Australian Shepherd I have ever known has been fiercely loyal to its owners, but scared of or distant to everyone else. I think they need to know right away that it is okay to give attention to other people and they won't hurt her/him.

what ever you do DO NOT PHYSICALY SCALD THE AUSIE! they take that as a form of attention just take the time each day and train it what you want i have 2 and they try to out perform each other on everything i ask them to do !great loyal and pleasing dogs

OK we are teaching my over grown kitty cat dogie Yorkie to take crackers to my dad for a night time snack. lol he is so cute. lol he is so stubborn and sooo sweet and he can do a cat impression.!!! with the normal things sit lay shake also!!! but Yorke's are a whole different category!!
