Hi, I grew up with yorkies and am also a licensed veterinary technician. Yorkies can be very sweet fun little dogs. They are very much a big dog trapped in a small dog's body! One of my mom's yorkies once tried to pick a fight with a Great Dane! Not scared at all! If you are thinking about getting a puppy the most important thing I can tell you is LOOK FOR A RESPONSIBLE BREEDER! There are many people out there just breeding dogs just to make a buck and do not take care of their dogs. Yorkies have developed many serious health conditions because of irresponsible breeders. If a breeder seems to have a lot of dogs and a lot of puppies....beware! Also...good breeders do not advertise in the newspaper! Other than that, good quality foods include Iams, Eukanuba, Nutro, or Science Diet. With food, you get what you pay for. Cheap food = cheap ingredients. Toys can vary from dog to dog. Use caution with cheap rubber toys, little dogs can choke on little things:) Also use caution with any rawhide products. And be aware, yorkies do require a fair amount of grooming with all of that hair. And with little dogs socialization is very important! It can be the difference between a nasty ankle biter and a sweet friendly dog. There are alot of people out there with alot of different opinions about dogs, just be careful and do your research:)

Yorkies may look sweet and glamerous but they are terriers through and through so you will need to remember that. Shampoo will be really down to your likes and dislikes. I use Baby Powder Shampoo on my lot as they dogs retain the smell for ages! As for toys, as long as they are small enough for your dog to play with they should be fine. Mine prefer soft toys to vinyl ones.
