Every one here is going to tell the breed of dog they have is the best dog for kids, well a lot of them are wrong. You need to research the many different breeds and make an educated decision on what you think is the best breed for you and your families lifesyle. AKC has a web site with descriptions of all recognized breeds of dog.(akc.org )You could also read a few books like Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds, or Idiots Guide to Chosing, Buying and Raising a Dog.
If properly trained and embraced as a beloved member of the family, any breed can make a great pet. With that said, some dogs are seen as more “kid-friendly” than others and, as a result, have become extremely popular among families. According to the AKC, the five most popular breeds in the United States are:
Labrador Retrievers are by far America’s most popular dog—more than 140,000 Lab puppies were registered last year with the AKC—and have a reputation for being playful, hardworking and affectionate toward children. The Lab is easily trained and is highly respected for his prowess at many jobs: as a guide dog for the disabled, a search-and-rescue dog, and for narcotics detection.
Golden Retrievers are sporty, easy to train and strong, but their most outstanding trait is character. They are outgoing and devoted companions to people of all ages, happy and trusting. They make great hunting companions, too.
German Shepherd are noble in appearence and character. This breed's courage, steadfast heart, and keen senses have endeared him to families for generations. Active and outdoorsy, German Shepherds are very fond of children and make wonderful companions.
Beagles love being around people and other animals. They are gentle, happy companions who thrive on affection and attention. They are also clever, quick, and, most of all curious. They need plenty of active exercise.
Dachshund has a lively, upbeat personality—spunky, curious and friendly. Originally bred to hunt badgers, Dachshund’s love to dig, romp and run. They are affectionate, especially with children, and enjoy going for walks and other forms of exercise
You should do your research before you bring any animal into your home. If breed is not an issue you could always adopt a pup from your local pound or shelter. They come spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations and you can find all ages, sizes and breeds. As I stated in the beginning any dog can be good with children it is a matter of how the are trained and socialized. Also please keep in mind that small children and babies should never ever be left alone with dogs.

So many things to consider here. What type climate do you live in? Do you prefer large or small dogs? Will it be an inside or outside dog? Do you have a fenced yard? Do you have neighbors close by? Have you owned dogs before and do you know how to train and discipline them? So on and so forth. I'd recommend reading a good dog book or two first if this is a first dog. The top dogs I'd recommend are boxers, golden retrievers, boston terriers, poodles, and beagles. Beagles can be noisy and more difficult to train if you have never trained a dog. Just make sure you purchase one of the more submissive in the litter. And check into the temperament of the parents. Although, labradors are great dogs they are too exuberant for a young child. Of course these aren't the only breeds good for young kids but you are less likely to go wrong with these imo. Good luck!

Beagles are excellent family dogs, and poodles (you don't have to give them those show haircuts)
With Poodles you can get whatever size you prefer.
But if you have a 15 month old, it would be best to get a dog about 3 years old, probably from a breed rescue group, where the dog has been fostered by a family and evaluated.

It sorta depends where you live. I live in areas where it gets 100+ degrees in summer and 30- below in winter.
I have a Female Husky that will not be intiminated by ANYONE
when she is outside with my son. She watches him closely.
She protects him. I've seen her kill snakes, racoons and a BADGER.
OHHH I can hear it now..No dog can kill a badger.
Yes, My big sweetie did. I have the skull.
All I can say to that is, She was with me when she jumped a racoon and it was so horrible to me that I ended the racoons life
as I felt sorry for it.
The badger was a prize she brought to our poarch.
I do think she has "other" genes in her. She wheghs around 100 Lbs. I think she may be a Wolf, mix breed.
I got her from the pound.
Another good all weather dog is a Norweagean Elkhound.
the breed is strictly outside and loyal.
We don't really have any info about you.
To get the best info for your needs, look up the AKC website.

Ok all dog could be good. If you raise them right. Mainly toy dogs like poodles, and chihuahua are not good to have around children because they are very jealous dogs. I have three pit bulls and they are all raised around children of all ages. None of them have ever bit any person or child. My chihuahua that I just got, I dont really like to let him play with kids because he bites. Now my pit bulls are the most friendliest dogs in the world. it is proven that pit bulls have scored higher on temperament test than ever day family dogs like labs, and golden retrievers. The reason being that pit bulls have a high tolerance for pain and children can tend to be a little rough with animals, plus they are excellent family dogs. They will protect you to the death. But it is not our decision it is up to you. I am just giving you some advice. Good luck on finding a dog. Let me know if you would like more information about pit bulls and that goes for anyone that would like to know more about this breed, Just email me. mari_luvs_eddie@yahoo.com

It depends on your preference really. I would say a lab.We had a lab when our children were younger and she was the sweetest dog. But I guess it just depends if you want a big dog or little dog. My mom has a miniature schnauzer and hes awesome with children.

Lab and Lab mixes are so sweet and loving. Make sure he learns his manners though so he isn't out of control when he gets big. You wouldn't want him accidentally hurting a small child by jumping or something. You know how tough your kid is though and some like being knocked over by a big kiss from a puppy friend.

Hey... I think Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers grow up to be great family dogs, just remember that they are like any puppy when they are little, they run around, bark, bite....
