We've been talking about getting a golden lab for a while now.

Price seems to have quite a range here -- CDN$350-$900.

The low end of course looks like a bad idea; if there're pictures, they're usually not living in the house. Not my idea of how to raise a puppy. But, at the high end, a lot of the cost seems to be going to 'showing' championship labs.

I grant that a responsible, professional breeder probably will 'show,' but...but I don't need a show dog. Just a healthy, friendly family member.

Or does 'healthy, friendly' invariably mean 'a costly puppy from parents who are show dogs'?

I am, obviously, pretty green about the whole thing and will be doing more research before bringing anybody home...

Given how much better I feel about supporting responsible breeders, I suspect I'll be going with one of the $$$ pups; just want to figure out if I'm on the right track.

I dont know if I can. My puppy eats a sorta wet food dry food casserole for her meals twice a day. Every meal time i have to mix it all together and stuff. I was wondering if I could pre-mix the wet and dry food and put it in the refrigerator. Is there a risk that thr dry food would go bad??

my dog, ever since he was little has had a problem. when he was little we would pick him up and he would make this little sound, that we didnt know what was, we later realized it was him growling as a puppy, now he is grown and he will be completely fine one minute, and then the next he is growling and snarling like he wants to kill you, but after awhile he will be okay again, but it has recently been getting worst, and anytime we walk by him or make one wrong move, he starts growling, i was just wondering if anyone knows the term for this problem, and if there is a certain food or nutritional supplement he could take to help stop or atleast make it happen less, it is slowly becoming a huge problem with family, please help?

my dog ate my baby sister's poop! i know its familiar to other most dogs to eat poop... but here's my question:

My dogs' breath stinks and his nose stinks as well because the smell of the poop stucked on him! ive tried everything i can to get the smell out! (bruching his teeth, taking him a bath a couple of time, wiping and wiping his nice to get the smell out cuz it stinks, brushing and brushing his tounge and teeth) but nothing seems to work! He STINKS! this dog is really special and i almost strangled the maid for leaving dirty diapers lying around! damn that maid! she knows my dog is kinda clumsy and always gnaw whatever he could gnaw!... instead of strangling the maid, i accidentally showed my anger to my dog and i carelessly hurt him! (which now makes me feel guilty! im soo bad! i swear ill never hit him again! i couldnt help it! i wasnt able to control my temper!)... H E LP! NEED TO GET RID OF THE SMELL... PRONTO!

I know labs are very active dogs. My pup is three months old. We take him to the park about every other day. We play with him outside. He has tons of toys inside. But he gets bored with it all. He losed interest in his toys after he plays with them a few times.

How do I keep him happy?

Lately, my 9 month old lab has not been sleeping well. He gets plenty of daily exercise, so he should be tired. I have also noticed some yellowish discharge coming from his left eye. Lastly, he is panting more than ususal. Last night he woke me up because he was panting excessively. It is getting warmer, to maybe explain the panting, but the yellowish discharge is particularly concerning.

I have 2 huskies, 1 male whos 2, and female of 3 yrs old, and a female border collie whos about 12..

I have a serious problem with my 3 year old female husky, she attacks our border collie for no visible reason.. She just goes for her and I've been bitten twice by trying to break them up (I know you shouldnt, but) if I didnt Im sure she would end up killing our collie or seriously injuring her!

Its not over food, or toys, Im wondering if its because we have just the one male, and our female husky feels threatened by another female... any advice would be grately appreciated :)

I unfortunately no longer have a cat, but still have a full box of Advantage for cats.
It is the same size dose the vet gave me for the dog last month, so I wondered if there is a reason I shouldn't use it up on the dog?

Our Black Lab mix is scheduled to have surgery for elbow dysplasia on 3/20. He is approximately 10 months old and we rescued him in Nov. 2006. He was not fed or treated properly up until we took him. He weighed about 45 pounds in Nov. and he now weighs around 80 pounds. He's very healthy other than the elbow problem. I'm just curious about what to expect after the surgery from someone who has had experience with this situation.
