I dont know, but when a dog drags their butt on the ground usually is a sign of a problem.
It usually means they are trying to express their anal glands that are impacted. If the dog can't do it theirself then it has to be done by the vet or a groomer. They can get infection if not expressed. So many people will say it is a sign of worms, but this is most generally NOT true.

I think it's because most people are so uneducated about animal healthcare. They don't know or care that this dog is in pain and that it doesn't mean the dog has worms. The anal glands becoming full is uncomfortable, painful, and they can burst if they are not extracted. Pet owners need to learn how to take care of their pet. A lot of people think extracting anal glands is "gross" but it's actually just a part of your pet's healthcare. My opinion is that most people are just stupid when it comes to animals.

Because they know what the dog is doing... he is rubbing his anus against the floor, and it will most likely leave a feces streak. Is it funny? Not really, but what else do you do when it happens - it's sort of a "nice" way for people to say "good grief - get your dogs anal glands extracted so that does not happen again cuz it is freakin' yucky!" LOL

It's an embarrassing moment for both owner and viewer. Laughter breaks up the tension and is a better solution than saying something rude after pointing it out. Kinda like the licking thing. Laughter is just a good way to handle and uncomfortable moment. It's not like the dog is going to say 'excuse me' or anything. Good question!!!

Welll, you must admit, it does look pretty funny, unless it;s your dog, and someone else is watching .lol. It's pretty much what you'de do yourself if you had an itchy bum, and no hands.
