We have a stray dog we have been feeding and are going to keep, but he is scared of being held or anything and we need to give him his shots. My husband and i have been trying to catch him and hold him down, but he is huge and very strong. Any suggestions on what i can give him to knock him out just long enough for me to give him his shots?

I just bought a puggle like a week ago and she ended up getting sick. She is on medicine for 10 days. Yesterday she was eating fine but today she won't eat or drink any water. All's she wants to do is sleep which is fine because she is sick but I am getting worried because she won't eat or drink. I even tried giving her a treat and she won't take it. It's like she doesn't want anything in her mouth. Can someone please help me.

I just got a 7 month old puppy about two weeks ago. She doesn't bark when I am around at all. But as soon as I leave she howls and whines and yelps. You can hear her from the street. I live in a condo and my nieghbors complained and my fiance sleeps during the day, he works nights and she keeps him up all day. I put her in a kennel, when i am gone because she will eat EVERYTHING. I can train her with the chewing but I don't even know where to begin with barking? I wanted to know if bark collars are a good idea? She is about 45 lbs, and is very strong, a big chewer and obviously a loud barker. What can I do to keep her from barking? And also any suggestions about getting her to stop eating shoes? Don't you just LOVE puppies!

Everytime my Jack Russells use the bathroom they kick their back legs out like they "burning out". It's very cute and I laugh everytime, but I just wondered if this is some kind of instinct for dogs or if they are trying to actually do something...

Or is it best to keep to a walking pace? I mean an average to large dog in good health, jogging at a human pace for say 5/6 miles?

I have a friend who has an Irish Wolf Hound. My friend cannot look after him any more due to ill health and wants to know if I can look after it for him.

I've had a dog before but never anything this big. The animal is quite docile and fairly old- is there anything in particular to look out for, behaviour-wise, with this dog?

I know it has been well-looked after and I would continue to do so; I have been told they eat a lot but I can cope with this. I would be able to take him out for a walk twice a day for an hour max. each time, and he'd have a garden to play in during the day.

When my father was a little younger than me his family kept a dog to take care of vermin (they had a cat too, but it was too fat and slow to catch anything not already dead- the whole street fed it apparently!).

He tell me how, back in the day, dogs in the country were kept to work rather than look pretty. His old dog slept in a nice dry brick kennel (with heating from the house, I add), ate purely what the family left after meals (no junk food then, remember- it was all cooked meat and veg) and was never sick enough to need a vet. In exchange for it's board it caught all of the rats and saw away any unwelcome people off of the doorstep.

It sounds to me like his old dog had a great life but didn't have any of the luxury that todays pets do; so was this wholly a bad approach?

His leg, the long part right before the paw, and hes been chewing on it. Its about the size of a dime, actually smaller. but when i sqeeze it, it oozes blood, but i think that bc of there being no hair, or from him chewing it out. and theres no worm, or anything that looks like it. And it dosent bother him. i think he just liks to chew on it, but i think im worng, what could it be?
and do you think it will heal?

also, im thinking of putting neosporin on it, and poroxide/alchohol , but do you think that it would make it worse?

I have a chiuahuah puppy and she is so cute. However, I hate overweight chiuahuahs. I know that they don't need to have food down all the time but I don't want to starve her either. I usually give her a big handfull of food three times a day, sometimes more. Is that enough or should I give her more. I want her to be healthy. What do you think?
