Get him or her checked out right away--he may have diabetes. Drinking a lot is one of the first symptoms. We didn't catch it until Molly was having problems--she's blind--but there are symptoms she had that we just didn't know could be from diabetes--she was listless, and we found out when we took her to the vet because she was starting to pee in the house.

your dog may be drinking more do to a number of reasons such as hot temperature or health issues. Increased thirst can be a sign of thyroid problems, diabetes, kidney disease, or urinary infections. If your dog is peeing a lot as well, it may be due to cushings diease

It could be many things, it is one thing I would call the Vet about. Diabetes comes to mind but there are many other things. Best to ask a trained person. Below is a link that may help.

Is she an older dog, or overweight? Increased thirst can be a sign of thyroid problems, diabetes, kidney disease, or urinary infections.
