His leg, the long part right before the paw, and hes been chewing on it. Its about the size of a dime, actually smaller. but when i sqeeze it, it oozes blood, but i think that bc of there being no hair, or from him chewing it out. and theres no worm, or anything that looks like it. And it dosent bother him. i think he just liks to chew on it, but i think im worng, what could it be?
and do you think it will heal?

also, im thinking of putting neosporin on it, and poroxide/alchohol , but do you think that it would make it worse?

And how much do you think it would cost to take him to the vet for this?

My Dobe does this too - Dobes are notorious for this behaviour. Sometimes she'll go for months without doing it, then starts again. She will stop doing it if I catch her in the act, and she actually appears embarrassed about doing it. She nibbles at a spot then licks it for awhile, but it never gets larger than about the size of a nickel. If he leaves it alone it will form a scab which will fall off after it heals, and the hair will grow back. Although you CAN use an an ointment on it (such as neosporin - won't hurt the dog) he will most likely just lick it off and it won't do any good - most dogs LOVE the taste of ointment! Peroxide won't hurt but won't really do any good either. My vet recommends an ointment or spray deterrent that tastes bad, you can get one at most pet supply stores. If that doesn't work then you need to take him to see your vet. Most of the time these aren't a big deal but if the dog is persistent, the sores can turn into lick granulnomas which must be treated by a vet. You could try wrapping the leg with vetwrap and putting the deterrent on the fabric if he won't leave it alone.

Your vet would more than likely charge you for an office visit/exam charge, plus the cost of the medications that may be needed. Not a huge expense mos of the time.

What your dog has is a hot spot from his chewing on it. Take him to the vets for the proper medication. He may have allergies right now because of the change of seasons. Do not put anything on it right now until after you've seen the vet. You can wash it with some antibacterial soap and dry it very well. The sticky stuff is bacteria and infection thats why you need to see the vet.
It shouldnot be that expensive maybe 35 to 45 dollars.

It sounds like a hot spot which is normal in dogs. Hot spots can start out as a small loss of fur on any given area ot he dogs body. In time tho, it can get bigger with stuff oozing out of it. It's just some thing that happens to dogs but can be treated by a veterinarian. Don't squeeze it, what ever you do. Bacteria can get in that sore and cause an infection. Hot spots sting and itch them like crazy. The more they lick and bite it the worse it gets. Don't put peroxide or alcohol on it! That's going to sting the dog big time. He will try to lick it off and can get very sick from that. If you put anything like an ointment he will just lick it off. My advise to you is take him to your veterinarian and have them take a look at it. They can treat it and give you the right kind of medications to get it better. I really hope this helps!

You need to call a vet in order to get the answers that you are looking for.

Please do not put any medicines that are made for humans on your dog, without the request of the vet, they could be highly toxic and cause the dog more harm than good.

You dog may have been bitten by something, or may be having an allergic reaction, so you really need to have him checked out at the vets office. I would not be squeezing the injured area either, this could cause further injury to your dogs leg.

Good luck.

I am sure it is a hot spot, it isn't safe to use neosporin on it as he will chew it and ingest it. When you talk w your Vet ask him about using aloe vera gel on it, it needs to be one that is safe to ingest. You can get it at most health food stores and it is soothing to the skin. I should think that the peroxide and alcohol would irritate/burn the skin.

My Doberman had the same problem, they do like to lick don't they, but i have to say take him to the vet and get some proper stuff for him or he will carry on licking it and it will get bigger the more he licks it.
