Are you playing with her or opening the back door to let her out? She wants someone to play with. Some dogs love to dig but if you keep him/her busy they wont.

Has anything changed in her daily routine lately? If it isn't real hot where you are she is probably bored. Sometimes clipping her toenails a bit shorter may curb the digging. Just take care not to cut too short. If she is being left alone more than she is used to she may be lonely. Sounds like she has nothing else to do. Agree, she needs some toys or a ball big enough so she can't swallow it.

Have you recently done any gardening such as planting new plants etc using a fertilizers? Many of the fertilizers use animal products such as "Bone-Mea"l. This will cause your dog to dig down, much as they would if they had buried a bone etc. If none of the above applies, are you leaving her alone more often than usual?

I generally it means that the dog is bored and he ran out of things to do. Get him some of those toys that you hid treats in. Many hours of fun can go in one of them. They help with boredom.

She needs more exercise! Take her to a dog park, or on a run.
