Dogs - March 2007

I'm 12 years old, and I want a dog, but my mom and dad don't. They think that I won't take the responsibility, but I am dying to have one. They think that they will be stuck with the duties, and I told them that I can handle it, but they still say no! What should I do? BEGGING IS NOT AN OPTION!!!! ill get grounded :(

my dog got into the pantry and ate a whole can of chocolate frosting. this happened about 10 min ago and he seems to be fine. i know dogs bodys dont like chocolate, do you think i can do anything to help him? will he be alright?

A playful,loving,protecting, non-prissy pomeranian or a english mastiff. (I put details on the pomeranian cuz most people think pomeranians are not playful and crap like that.and most know about english mastiff's)

At first she would barely eat. But since I just returned from work with Pedigree in Morsels sauce she ate it all up(I used to have the hard kind of food). It seems she have hiccups, when she lays down her body jerks like we do if we have hiccups. At first she wasnt drinking either but when i returned from work, she drank a little more than she did.Sometimes I can hear little growling or bubbling sounds in her stomach.Can anyone explain all of this.I just got her Saturday and i make sure she has plenty to drink.She is a Shih-Tzu, born in December. Thanks in advance!

I have a 5 month old jack russell. Any dog toy we buy him is totally demolished in about 15-30 minutes. His teeth are sooo sharp he chews his rubber toys up sometimes ingesting pieces of rubber which could tare up his intestine so he doesn't have any play toys now. I've heard that raw hides aren't digestable and that's the only thing that helps with his teething and chewing. Any suggestions

My yorkie/silky puppy is 6 moths old and has not previously gone into heat. We are planning to get her spayed in the next few weeks. Are there any signs that i can read to tell me when she might go into heat. I want to be prepared so she doesnt make a mess of the house.

My friend took his dog to the vet and that is what the vet diagnosed, but he does not understand. My friend thought it might be a stroke. Does anyone know what "old dog distibular disease" is?

Hi,

I'm supposed to teach my dog an advanced trick for her training class. The trainer wants everyone to come up with something original....not like rollover, paw, beg, play dead. More along the lines of having the dog bring slippers to you. Anyone have any unique ideas?!??! (i have a jack russell)

He is a 3yr old choccie lab. I have had him since Dec 06 as he belonged to my sister but she didn't have time 4 him with 4 kids.He is a lovely dog but he keeps eating poo when we go on walks.I don't let him off the lead now as I feel I have better control of him when he's on the lead but he still manages to do it.I have tried a muzzle but he freaks out and gets very distressed with it so I end up taking it off.I have 2 other dogs his father and brother and they are no problem.My sister says he didn't do this with her but I'm not so sure.Does anyone have any advice on this as its driving us mad as it is disgusting.He has been wormed and is on a good food and gets the right amount for his breed and weight any ideas!

she barks at everything and anything .. people walking by , anmails and all.. and when i tell her quit she just barks .. and i get my neighbors complaining all the time but yet they have dogs

get her to stop doing that? She is almost 3 and it drives all of us crazy! Is there a solution? I don't want to take her to the vet, I've already asked him about it and he wasn't helpful. She is healthy in all other ways. If you know a solution, please let me know. Thank you! We love our labs but the licking is annoying!!

Yesterday we dropped our 4 month old boston terrier puppy Abbey, off at the vet, she had cherry eye and was going to be spayed at the same time. She made it through the surgery but died about an hour later. The vet "doesn't know" what happened. The autopsy showed nothing. We asked not less than 5 times about her age, have heard that they need to be 6 months old. Now the vet wants to charge us not only for the spaying and cherry eye, but for the autopsy and the addition work being sent to a vet. college for further examination. Plus the cost of cremation. why should we pay this? They killed our puppy, we have had 3 other pets die in the past 4 years but not while at the vet. she was the best pup ever, so funny and sweet and just as cute as could be. Should we have to pay for all this since obviously they didn't do something correctly.

I board my pet (A very happy, playful, 7 month old Pit Bull) at my vet's office about once a month - once every other month for a day or two at a time.
Every singe time I pick him up, his eyes are blood red, completely. Literally looks like someone painted his eyes red with a solid red marker. I asked them why his eyes were like that and they said that its the because of the stuff they put in his eyes to protect them from the chemicals in their shampoo.

I asked another vet and he said he's never heard of anyone intentionally putting anything in animals eyes before they bathe them.

Another thing is, when I drop him off at the vet's office, he acts like he's dying when they begin to take him back. Seems like he's scared to death.

Are there any vets that can comment on this? If they are mistreating my dog, how can I get proof and do I have grounds for a lawsuit??
