Never. They can be poisoned as easily as you or I.

I have to add that dogs are not evolutionarily designed to eat raw meat.

We are talking about domesticated animals, pets, dogs that have been bred to be domesticated. They would not survive in the wild, they would not be able to digest the food that wild animals eat, and they are not immune to the diseases that wild animals, including coyotes and wolves, are able to resist.

Please, no more answers that rely upon the evolutionary ability of dogs to consume what they cannot consume.

Evolution, with our help, has bred these abilities out of them.

Just compare your dog's teeth to that of a wild dog's dentition.

Don't feed your dog anything you wouldn't eat yourself.

Then, there is always the holistic faction. It's your dog, you decide. The consequences are ones you will have to live with.

Good luck.

I also own a Shih Tzu. I would not give him chicken bones esp raw ones for 3 reasons; (1) It could give him food poisoning IE Salmonella (2) It could very well splinter off and cause problems (3) If it gets caught in his small throat it could choke him. Also, I have yet to hear a vet recommend raw/cooked chicken bones for a dog of any size, let alone a Shih Tzu.

Yes. My dogs get raw chicken, bones and all as the staple of their raw diet.Keep in mind raw chicken alone doesn't make up a balanced raw diet. You need to include organ meat, and a few other things as well.

The articles I'll post will explain better than I can at the moment.

There is another diet option other than dog food. Some people choose to feed a raw diet. This involves feeding the dog raw meaty bones and organ meat. However it is not as simple as throwing a couple chicken bones in a bowl everyday. If you wish to feed this type of diet, do lots and lots of research first. Switching to this diet without knowing what your doing can lead to nutritional problems for your dog. I'll give you some links as a starting point in research if you are interested in this type of diet.

Yes, so long as it is fresh as dogs can get salmonella, though not as easily as humans, raw meat is the best type of meat to feed a dog, it is only humans wanting things their way as usual that decided it would be good to feed processed crap! and call it dog food and yes I am guilty of exactly that!!

Just a quick edit here.
The BARF diet for dogs tells you that raw chicken bones are fine, it is only cooked chicken bones that splinter!

No, I know of one dog who nearly died through stealing and then eating a raw chicken leg from a barbecue.

yes it is fine. you need to make sure the diet is balanced though search fotr BARF feeding on search engine. a good book is 'grow your pups with bones' and the barf diet. raw feeding is good for your dog and they can eat chicken bones raw. dont feed your dog cooked chicken bones as they splinter. It is important the diet is balanced though with offel (heart, liver ect) also with oily fish cottage cheese and also raw egg (inc shell)

Please never ever feed your dog raw chicken(or any other raw meat). A dog should never have any chicken that has not been deboned as the splinters can rupture delicate tissue and are definitely a choking hazard. All meat given to your dog should be well cooked!

yes- as long as it hasn't been sitting out on the counter for more than a couple hours. Raw meat is techincally what their mouths and stomachs were made for, evolutionarily.
Raw meat is more like a natural diet, but do not feed tons of it if they are not used to it. Just like if you pigged out on one type of food you weren't used to- you would get sick.
