I just bought a shih tzu also, and at first she wouldn't eat. I got her last Thursday and last night was the first night she actually ate like a puppy should. As long as you keep offering her food and water, and she gets enough water, she will be fine. They seem to have a really hard time adjusting and it is just a little bit of depression causing her not to eat properly. By the way, mine gets hiccups all the time too. They are like newborns, and when newborns eat, they get hiccups, the same things goes for puppies. Good luck!

Dogs are pretty sensitive to the food they eat, although you wouldn't think so after watching them lick themselves, but changing their food can take an adjustment, try giving them a little bit of new food mixed in with the old food adding a little more each time until you have the new food only. Be sure to check the stools for any thing unusual. It may be he just ate to fast or too much.

a) your dog could be stressed in her new home... it takes awhile for them to adjust
b) Dogs dont handle food/diet changes very well, so when the food is changed you have to gradually mix the new in with their old food, each time adding more new and putting less old-- until they are fully on their new food. You can't change it suddenly like that, it messes with their digestive tract and upsets their stomach-- that is probably the gurgling you are hearing. This doesnt sound like it's a serious problem but watch her carefully to make sure she isnt....
1)Rolling over a lot and standing in places with her hind end higher than her head a lot.
2) Licking her stomach or chewing at it, as #1 and #2 are both signs your puppy may be colicing, if you see these signs take her to the vet immediatly or she could potentially die...
Make sure she is drinking water and that she isnt throwing up or having diahhreah... she may for the first day after the sudden diet change but as you go back and gradually change it, it should cease right away.
4) If she has bad diahhreah, give her a half a chewable pill of peptobismol wrapped up in cheese or if you have liquid give her 1/2 of a teaspoon, she will love it and it will help her stomach-- Mix rice in with her food as it will help stop vomiting and clear up diahhreah...
***Peptobismol is completely safe for dogs, we have two 100 lb golden retrievers and they get one chewable, so i think a half will be good for her =) Our vet reccomended it to us, so i promise you it is fine =) If you still are doubtful it is ok, i understand you may be doubtful and worried about your baby!! To reassure you here is a direct quote that seems to be common over many veterinarian website--
RECIPE for early onset diarrhea,
Pepto Bismol every 3 - 4 hours.
liquid pink Pepto 1/2 to a tsp each time, for every 10lbs of dog

She has gas. To help her, massage her belly in a clockwise position. Don't get mad at me if she farts cuase...that might happen. XD
The above works for babies (human babies) so I figure it would work for puppies too. Oh, and try to discourage eating too fast- that can get air in the belly which hurts a lot. Believe me, I know.

Sounds like stress getting used to her new home.
BUT>>>>>>>>>> If you do not know for sure that she has been wormed, had any vacinations, etc then you should take her to the vet ASAP.

With her being new to the house it may take her a while to get used to her new home. She may not eat while alone because she only feels safe with you home. Consult with your vet and get their opinion.
