A puppy can only hold his pee for one hour per month of age. If you are gone longer than that, he needs to be in day care. At the day care, he will be potty trained for you, leash trained, and exercised and socialized. Here we charge $10 per day..
Puppies shouldn't be alone any more than a todler should, as their very basic needs can't be met..emotionally or physically.

To tell you the truth you don't get a puppy. With both of you working that will not do the puppy any good. Why would anyone get a puppy knowing they have to put it in a cage all day or let it run around and mess all over the place to just get punish for it.. I really think you are being selfish here. Don't be getting a puppy you would be only be ruining a dog. I don't sale my puppies if no one can be home with them during the day. I don't believe in crates. So I won't sale them if both are working.

I did this with my last two dogs. My wife and I both work, but I work two miles from our home. I will tell you that both my dogs are pugs, so they are smaller. I would put them in the bathroom for the first month when I went to work. I made sure that the air was on , and that I put their bed on the floor, and water. I would come home on lunch to feed her, let her run around, and put her out to go to the bathroom. Then put her back in the batheroom. The reason I did this for the first month was how small she was, and I didn't want a hawk to attack her, or for her to get into trouble in the yard. After she had gotten bigger I would put a crate up to the dog door so that she, and my male pug could come inside when it rains or is hot, but would go outside to use the bathroom. I found this also very effective in potty training. You will have to make sure that you spend a lot of time with them when you are home, and if noone can come over on a lunch break I don't know if I would reccommend getting a puppy now.
Oh, and if you put them in the bathroom, make sure you have the steel no burst hoses on the toilet. Had one chewed up once, and flooded the house. After I changed it out it was left alone. The non burst hoses cost like $10.

My brother got a cocker spaniel puppy and they immediatley kennel trained it. They leave him locked in his kennel all day when they are at work. Unless he really has to go, he wont go in his kennel. If you leave him loose to run around all day he is going to chew on things and go potty where ever he wants and he will never be trained properly. You should really try to find a way to let him out atleast once during the day. Either go home during lunch if possible or find someone who can let him out atleast once during the day. Make sure when you are home that you spend lots of time with him and give him lots of love.

Why do you want one in the first place if it is just going to be left on its own for most of the day?
Thats just plain selfish not to mention unfair to the puppy.
Get a hamster or goldfish instead, less responsibility.
In the end you'll be grateful, leave a puppy in a cage all day, he's going to become aggressive, leave them about the house, only if you're prepared for the mess, cleaning up dog piss and ****, and cost of fixing chewed, scratched items in your home.
You need to rethink getting a puppy in the first place i think, very very immature and very to buy a puppy to leave him to his own devices.
Let someone else who has the time to raise the puppy have it.

You should buy the puppy sometime when you have time off so you can train him to use a crate and so hes used to the house but after that you could leave him in a closed off area of your house with some food and water and some toys. Or you could install a doggy door.

It is simple, you don't get one. I work at a rescue centre and we don't even consider rehoming puppies to family's who are out all day. The puppy will get bored, excrete on the floor chew cupboards, and how much of a life is spending all day in a cage. Please think, this would be imprisonment for an innocent puppy. Please please please, consider an older dog from a rescue, I don't mean ancient but one that is no longer a puppy and doesn't mind being left.
Greyhounds are great, as much as people think they need lots of exercise, a twenty minute walk once or twice a day, and two runs a week are all a greyhound needs. Please do not buy a puppy, it would be very selfish and unkind. Please.

DONT GET ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is not fair to the puppy to leave him home all day and then have you come home from work and be tired and not have the time to give him the attention he needs. Seriously don' t get one. Get a betta fish or a goldfish that is alittle less high maintenance. Please don't get a puppy, that is all this world needs is more owners giving up on their animals because they don't have the time or the patience.

Ideally i would say don't get a puppy if it is going to be left on its own allot!
They are called mans best friend because they like companionship!!???!!!
You might find that you get complaints from neighbors were ever you keep the puppy because of barking and howling.
Please consider this before getting a puppy.
Could you or your husband take the puppy to work with you?

Put him in doggy day care. Its cruel to leave him alone for more than 7 hours... infact in some states that is animal cruelty. So either crate train him and come home on lunch breaks to let him out, or put him in doggy day care, or dont get a puppy since you dont have time for it.
