Another question on dog food. I am looking for a good food for my st bernard and border collie. I also would like to be able to find a cat food of the same brand...so I can buy them at the same stores! I really don't want food with corn in it because animals, of all shapes and sizes don't digest food, and because of the dangers of molds/toxins in corn (aflatoxins, etc) it's just not worth the risk. Also, I really don't want glutens, as they are highly allergenic, and our border collie has enough skin problems as it is. So my question is, is it really that big of a deal if there is corn in the food or not, or am I just making something out of nothing? Also give you me your takes on dog/cat foods, what you use, and what is affordable? I bought a bag of merricks when we first got our st bernard, it was all we could get her to eat...but it is $50 for 30 pounds...OUTRAGEOUS...buy my dog seems to be a health nut!

I would appreciate some recommendations for durable car (sedan) back seat covers for a Lab. She does not chew but my so-so quality car seat cover has shown some major wear and tear. Thus, I need something that is heavy-duty, washable and does not trap hair. Hopefully, it won't break my bank either. I really need nothing fancy but practical. Thanks!

Those of you familiar with what was going on with Sabbath the white pit that was wrongly accused of attacking a woman and her husky. My husband and I along with a few of our supporters went to the animal hearing to dispute the case and the entire hearing we were not heared they told us the only thing that mattered was what the victim and cop said. One woman on the panel listening to our case had an inch thick file in front of her and told us " I don't read this stuff, I go by what is said here today." They stuck to their decision to declare him "dangerous", so my husband and I have done the hardest thing we have ever had to do, on Jan. 16 we took him and had him euthanized. The vet we went to was wonderful and gave us as much time with him before and after, we had him cremated and are waiting for enough $$ to pick up his ashes, soon i hope! With all this said, I wanted to say Thank You to everyone who replied, you have touched my families hearts in this time of tragedy.

I have had her since October, and she is a little over a year. She has never chewed on the couch until recently. I take her to Doggie Daycare during the week. On the weekend when I left her for a few hours she chewed on my couch. I have another dog so he keeps her company. Why all of a sudden is she doing this? They have a dog door to go in and out of when I'm gone and I leave her toys. We were planning on getting a new couch but I don't know if I should wait now. She has been sick with mites, and someone told me she might just be frustrated with her itching so she takes it out on your couch. Is this true?

I adopted a dog about six months ago. She is a very sweet, well-trained dog. I take care of her very well, but I don't find myself liking her very much. I grew up with dogs and always liked them, although I considered myself more of a cat person (I have a couple of cats and I can't get enough of them). At first, I was very excited about her. But, now I just find myself routinly caring for her, but not really wanting her around. She is a very needy dog and requires a lot of attention. She has also chewed up some things, as I know dogs will. But I found myself more angry then was reasonable, although please don't think I laid a hand on her. I feel like I have a responsiblity to her, and everyone else who knows her, loves her. Are there ways that you can bond with an animal, or should I just find her a new home? Rationally, I know she is a great dog, but I just can't seem to love her. She is very attached to me, but I can't share that sentiment, though I would like to. Help!

I have a 2 year old male (neutered) purebred boxer, who is in good health, and is top notch in obiedence. He has never once challenged my position in the house and has never been aggressive with a single person or child. A few months ago we got a new puppy and every time we scolded him my boxer would jump in a violently attack him. We have stopped him from doing that now. The problem is, yesterday, my husband and I were joking around and wrestling, and suddenly my boxer was in my face, hackles sticking up, teeth showing, the aggressive growling and kept trying to bite my face, while my husband had me pinned in a head lock and halfway under the couch. He barreled his head inbetween my husband to get to my face and today I have a massive black eye from him head butting me. I have lost confidence in this dog, and I don't know what to do? I'm so mad at him, because its after the fact, I can't discipline him for it. I would like some advice to prevent this from happening again. thnx

if a dog happens to eat pork and if THAT is what can cause colitis. does that mean it only comes because he ate the pork, or once he gets colitis will he always have it? what are the reasons a dog can get colitis to begin with? thank u for any answers.

i work at a dog ranch doing kennel work / watching about 15 different dogs and taking them out into the yards for playtime. my pomeranian dog at home has smelled my clothes/jackets and puts his ears back as he sniffs curiously. i have no other dogs, just him. well on saturday he started throwing up, then sunday was followed by diarreah and bloody liver like stools. i know stress colitis is one thing my vet is considering, she asked if we brought a new dog into the home or if he could be stressed by anything and we said no. then i thought about how he sniffed me after my work at the dog ranch. does anyone know if something as simple as that can cause stress colitis or any kind of colitis in a dog, if he is the only dog in the household. we got him from a lady who had another dog in the family , but for the last year he's been the only dog. my boyfriend fed him a tiny piece of chinese sweet and sour pork without the fried part just the pork,so i thought thats what caused it. any know?

I want my 4 mo. puppy to start barking when people knock, or even when someone is approaching the door. He has happened on this a couple times, but no consistency yet.
