Why do people always chain up their pit bulls in the back yard? I personally do not think i have ever seen one that wasent chained up in its back yard. Why cant they just let them run free in their yard. I dont see an issue as long as its a securely gated yard.

I need a name for my new dog.

Some details:
It's a toy fox terrier - we're talking a tiny dog. It will only be about 8 pounds when fully grown.

It's a girl.
I don't want a really girly name. No fi fi or priscilla or anything like that...

It's mostly white with light brown patches and a brown head.

I'd like something unique or fun. If it was a boy, I'd love to name it Goliath or something ironic like that. Unfortunately, it's a girl, so I feel kind of limited...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

I enjoy asking opinion based questions on Yahoo! Answers as i believe that 90 plus% of the answers are opinions (which is great! its a fantastic way to gain insight into other peoples thoughts and opinions on certain matters, plus learn how different people deal with different things)

so my question is, to all of the breeders, (whether u r backyard breeders, cross breeders, pure bred breeders etc), why do u breed?

i, personally dont agree with breeding "because u want to" or for any other similar reason... i work in a shelter and have adopted unwanted shelter dogs...

i just think there is an abundance of unwanted dogs across the globe, so why create more?

i dont meant to be rude at all with my question, i am honestly just really interested to hear why it is tthat people breed.

ps- i can understand why people breed to BETTER a breed and work out all of the genetic problems which have come from bad breeding... but that comes from years of experiance and research....

I was told that her longer hair will actually keep her cooler in the summer and, of course, warmer in the winter.

My dog got her shots 5 days ago. This is the first time she has had the lymes vaccine. Two days after this she started acting strange. Sort of disoriented, stares into space, separation anxiety, certainly not herself. She has always been a healthy dog...mentally and physically. I'm so worried that I should not have let her get this vaccine and it has hurt her. Any help will be appreciated so much.

my 1 year old pomeranian dog has been sick since saturday. he throws up some, then has diarreah with blood stools, sometimes just blood liver like stools. so we took him to the vet today. no pancreitis, possible stress colitis, or some kind of colitis. my boyfriend gave him a piece of chinese sweet and sour pork on friday and i am wondering if this could have caused it since pork does not go well with dogs. he took off the fried part and just gave him a small piece of the actual pork. so i didn't think that would hurt him, i have no idea what caused this but that is the one rare thing that stands out that i remember him eating before all this happened. what does pork usually do to a dog anyway? im sure chinese pork is probably different....probably much worse...anyone know anything about this, please leave me feedback answers, thank you.-curious owner

I found out today that my puppy has parvo virus. She's at the vet right now being treated with iv fluids and antibiotics. I'm just curious if anyone has had a puppy survive this and if so how long the recovery took and approximately what it ended up costing.

I have a cockerspaniel that is almost 14 years old and we just found out about 2 months ago that she has cushings disease, also 4 days ago she tore her acl in her knee. She is on pain meds so she is not in pain right now but she can't walk very well and I have to carry her up and down our steps to let her out to use the restroom. The vet thinks that her acl tore because of the cushings disease she has and we are scared that if we put her through surgery that she may not heal well from it because of her age and the cushings disease which the vet says is possible. I love my dog very much and it is very hard to even think about putting her to sleep but I don't want her to miserable either.

I have this annoying neighbor in my apartment complex that lives in the apartment directly next to me. She is constantly letting the thing loose without a leash so it does it's duty infront of my steps. I have half a mind to scoop it up and deposit it right infront of her door. Is it a good idea???

i have a 10 week old dog that i got from the humane society about 3 weeks ago. the dog eats well and seems to be growing fine. a few days ago i noticed he was looking thinner. today my wife said she laid around all day and she thought she wasnt feeling well. tonight the dog vomited in the hallway and when i started cleaning it up i noticed what i think is worms. it looked like spaghetti only thinner and some of them were pretty long and moving around. i thought worms were very small and you could only see them in the dogs stool.what kind of worms could they be? i immediately went to wal-mart and bought dewormer for the dog and my cat and gave it to them exactly as the instructions said. i am confused. can worms make a dog sick that quickly? she looked very healthy a couple of days ago. i am very concerned for my dog and would like some advice. should i take her to the vet tommorrow or wait a couple of days and see how she is feeling? will the wormer give her diarhea or make her vomit?

He is an 8-1/2 year old short-haired male.
This has been a recurring problem. It can even happen when
there are no cars waiting for the red light to change.
Should we force him to cross and get over his fears?

My 2 year old boxer has what looks and feels like a scab on both tips of his ears. The weird thing is they never go away. Even after I scrape them away they just grow back within a few days. They dont seem to bother him at all, but I would like to know what they could be. Anybody got any ideas?

I have a 1 year old boxer/german shephard mixed puppy. He is very, very sweet. Has a good temperment, but is very headstrong and does not listen to commands.
When I try to take him outside, he will either run to his house or run to a corner. Then when I try to put the leash on him, he growls, bears his teeth and bites me. He hasn't broken skin, but has left many bruises.
I love my puppy, but I am at a loss of what to do. This has been going on for abou 5 months now.
I want to keep him, but afraid that this might get worse. I live in an apartment and I am his only owner. He loves the dog park, but it is a chore just getting him there.
What should I do? Should I keep him? Give him to someone with a backyard? Please give me some advice.

NO ONE JUST LOOKING FOR POINTS PLEASE!!
