ALL dogs shed.
there are very very light shedders, (such as poodles) and then there are heavy shedders, (such as German Shepherds).
the poodles and dogs like them such as:
Chinese Crested
Maltese
Bichon Frise....etc.
are VERY VERY light shedders. they have hair more like our own, which...we DO shed. (if you have ever had to clean out your hair brush or comb...that is the proof in that).
poodles, Maltese and other low-shed dogs are better for ppl w/ allergies or asthma, because the hair is finer, and there is less of it.
it's really the dander that causes problems...which is dead skin cells. we shed dead skin, so do dogs.
with routine baths, a good diet, and regular vet care this should not be a big problem.
be sure to check if the breeds character and temperament are a good match for your home too! just because a dog is a low-shedder doesn't mean that it's personality will fit with your lifestyle!
Maltese are great dogs that love their owners fiercely, but can be a bit snippy around small children.
while Bichon Frises (a low-shedding dog) is a happy-go-lucky outgoing dog that is great with kids, but tends to be a bit high strung.

maltese terriers, like poodles are a low shed dog. people say "no shed" as they shed so little that u wouldnt even notice it! they are low allergen dogs and are great pets! daily brushing helps to gather the (very) few stray hairs they do let go of, and also helps to keep their coat beautiful. a good way of thinking about how they shed, is like a human. we lose our hair every day- even so little that u would never ever notice. its the same with malteses.
i hope u enjoy ur dog! =)

I know for a fact that Maltese do NOT shed. My mother owned one for many years. He was a great dog too.

I don't quite understand why someone would answer: "all dogs shed". This is absolutely not true. I have had poodles and mixed poodle breeds all my life and they absolutely do NOT shed. When you think about a dog with shorter hair, and I'm talking about a dog that doesn't need to have their hair cut, you'll know that they will shed, because that's how the hair stays short. Poodle hair then again will continue to grow and grow until you cut it. That's why they don't shed. Maltese is very similar.

all dogs lose some hair, even the only that dont shed that much. Brushing them daily does help, but there will still be doggy hair on your floor and furniture.
