Why do people always chain up their pit bulls in the back yard? I personally do not think i have ever seen one that wasent chained up in its back yard. Why cant they just let them run free in their yard. I dont see an issue as long as its a securely gated yard.

Because they haven't taken the time to train them. the ones that become aggressive are not the ones that have been beaten or trained to be mean, but the ones chained or not trained at all to respect humans and other dogs. Pit bulls are escape artists, so they just keep them chained to keep them form running out of the yard and risking harm to the neighborhood.
Owners just don't realise that they need to properly train and socialize their dogs, and especially pit bulls.

Some people are just idiots, want to look tough b/c they have a pit. And those are the morons that are giving the breed a bad name. They leave their dog in the yard without any attention and of course, it's not going to be a friendly dog. While yes, the breed does have a bad reputation, it all goes back to the owner, as it does with any breed!! If you get a dog and leave it tied up outside, chances are he won't be the best dog to be around, but if you get a dog and make him a part of the family, he will most likely be friendly and well behaved (if trained properly). It is true pits can climb, mine used to get out of his run before we made the top super secure. Now that he is older and has a bigger yard, I don't even second guess turning him out to do his business. My pit is the biggest cuddler ever, it makes me upset when people just see his breed as a vicious animal. These people need to do research, it's not the breed, it's the owners that ultimately make a dog good or bad. I am personally more afraid of being bit by a poodle or cocker spaniel!!

Ha ha as the person above has said they can climb... my friend has to chain her pitty mix in the center of the yard when he goes out for a bathroom break because he will climb the 6 ft fence with ease. Other people I am sure chain their dog because they are idiots who think dogs arent part of the family but any responsible pitty owner who just uses a chain for outdoor time does so because pittys are notorious escape artists that can climb fences.

because they are a smart breed owned by stupid people. people that are too cheap to buy a house alarm so they chain up a pit bull in their yard an feed it sometimes. thats why you often see them underfed also cause the owner uses them like a tool. it sucks i wish you can put the owners on the chain for a week an see how they feel

i have never seen a pit chained up in my area. all the pit owners i know have them as in door dogs where they can be with the family. if your seeing them chained up maybe hopefully they aint there all of the time maybe the owners are just hooking them up to do their bussiness and get fresh air i know thats wishful thinking but yeah i guess you could ask the same question about why anyone chains up any breed of dog outside.

People should know what they are talking about before answering a question about something like this.To judge people they don't know or a breed is stupid. I have an Akita that is like my child. He is very loving to me. He will even try to get in my lap. I am very certain though If a stranger was to try to approach him they might not be so lucky. He is my 100lb security system.Pitbulls are a naturally Agressive/Dominant breed. Even whennot trained or bred in that manor. You would have to ask the owner of these dogs. I would venture to say they have not been socialized. Been around other dogs or strangers.

Instead of them being chained up in a yard. Why not have them in a chain link kennel. Dogs hate to be tied up to anything. How sad : (

I disagree with a ban on Pit Bulls, there should be a ban on owners that train any dogs to be agressive and the owners of those dogs should be the ones who are found guilty.

People always assume that Pitts are dangerous and that's BS! We own a 2 year old Pitt bull shes is the sweetest dog in the world. We never chain her up and we'll let her run around sometimes. She has never hurt anyone; I think it depends on the way you train them. Pitt bulls are very smart animals.

They are not always chained up. They are not always dangerous. My ex-bf had a purebred pitbull and a pitbull daschund mix. They were kind of like mine because i lived with him for about a year. They were the sweetest dogs you will ever know. I woke up every morning with the purebred laying on my stomach with his head on my chest. Then one day when i was gone, they accidentally let the purebred out and she got hit by a car. :-/
