I enjoy asking opinion based questions on Yahoo! Answers as i believe that 90 plus% of the answers are opinions (which is great! its a fantastic way to gain insight into other peoples thoughts and opinions on certain matters, plus learn how different people deal with different things)
so my question is, to all of the breeders, (whether u r backyard breeders, cross breeders, pure bred breeders etc), why do u breed?
i, personally dont agree with breeding "because u want to" or for any other similar reason... i work in a shelter and have adopted unwanted shelter dogs...
i just think there is an abundance of unwanted dogs across the globe, so why create more?
i dont meant to be rude at all with my question, i am honestly just really interested to hear why it is tthat people breed.
ps- i can understand why people breed to BETTER a breed and work out all of the genetic problems which have come from bad breeding... but that comes from years of experiance and research....

I show and breed French Bulldogs, and I do breed to better the breed. All of my breeder dogs have had all of their health testing (and passed it with flying colors) and are either champions or have received points for their championship. I only breed when I have homes arranged for them, and I will always take back any of them. If they do not find excellent homes, I just keep them myself. I also volunteered at local rescues and help in their fund raising events, I feel that since I am breeding I need to help dogs that do not have homes find homes.

.....when people breed pure bred dogs, they usually are aiming to better improve the breed. You get some that only want money. When breeding responsibly you should be registered with a kennel club, have your dogs hip and elbow certified, or whatever breed health related problems. To prevent unwanted dogs in shelters and abandoned, breeders usually either micro-chip, tattoo or both. That way if this ever occurs the shelter can get in touch. Most breeders scan there puppy buyers cautiously. Spay or Neuter contracts are givin..and if anytime they cannot keep the pup, the breeder has to be offered the dog back. Before a breeder brings to dogs together they have interested buyers or reservations...thats called planned parenting. Not all breeders are bad. Personally they should have it where it is illegal to breed, to produce a cross breed. All cross breeds should be fixed by-law and if an accidental breeding should occur...both owners shall be fined...thats what should happen....thats only my opinion....People breed for the love of dogs, like I said above it is to improve the breed standard.

To better the breed. When I have a litter it's because I want something for myself to show and train. I want to produce the best possible Basset Hounds, ones I can take pride in.
I want dogs that are excellent representatives of the breed, that have good temperaments (hey, I have to live with them too), and good health (I hate vet bills as much as the next person). I'm always available to help new (and not so new) owners and I take back dogs that are no longer able to stay in their homes, for whatever reason. I do some rescue, but not as much as I used to due to time and space constraints.

not everyone wants a adult dog, unfortunately its like the problem we have with orphanages , people will adopt the babies but the older children are lucky if they get a home. its sad but alot of people want to relate to their dog on a personal level an pick a breed that best suits there situation an personality an want to be there while the puppy grows up so no problems with the dog biting anyone from abusive relationship or something. finding the breed that best fits you an raiseing it from puppy is more desireible for certain people.

I breed for me, because I want a pup to show and run. The fact that I happen to have enough puppies to brighten others lives is a bonus!
Most shelter dogs are randomly bred cross breeds, usually born because the owners are too stupid or lazy to take care of their animal. Just think of how few dogs would be in shelters if there were no mixed breeds being allowed to breed.

I fall into the "to better my breed" box. I don't breed yet however after I have shown for several years I plan on it. My folks have shown all my life so I grew up showing dogs and am not new to the Dog Fancy. Just new to my chosen breed of Labradors. :-)
Edit: I help rescue dogs right now although my present home doesn't allow dogs which cripples the effectiveness of my work. Fortunately I have a friend who helps me by homing any dogs I find. I plan on fostering when I have a different home and will continue to help with rescue and rehabilitation.

i ought to purchase from a pastime breeder, and, from the outline that you've given, I actually have. My breeding Mentors are a pair that lives about 40 5 minutes far flung from the position I stay. they have 3 bitches, even with the actuality that they are planning on getting a ***** from Germany this summer season- the Vom Hause Wagner line. they have one canines(male), too, and at present are elevating a muddle of 10 tremendous dane domestic dogs. it is the element- they're good respected breeders, they could merely be more effective if i ought to easily convince them to take their dogs to the coach. They get each and every of the needed wellness attempting out finished (do not question me, i'm merely thirteen so i do not understand) and next week they're taking about 4 of their co-owned dogs to the vet for hip dypsplasia attempting out. on the different hand, all yet truly one of their "%." of significant danes come from Poland, France, or Germany and performance champion grandparents and fogeys. those dogs are very acceptable and good and muscular. they're the most acceptable body structure and an awsome metal blue devoid of white- yet their body varieties are a lot diverse than american danes. So, they could maximum likely no longer position nicely in an American coach; they could ought to bypass to a special united states of america to get the places they deserved, and clearly that isn't count number to the AKC. So look at it besides you want, yet the following is my opinion; some breeders may be very responsible yet no longer besides common because they do no longer coach their dogs. those dogs gained't do nicely in Amercian shows, notwithstanding it does no longer change the "pastime breeders" high quality of dogs.

You breed to better the breed because you love the breed and
you want it to survive. You want to get rid of the health issues that come up. You don't breed just to sell puppies, you breed to produce good quality dogs.
