When ever my mom yells at me, or me and my brother fight, or something he gets in their face and growls, and only threatens to bite them, he raises all the hair on his back and gets between whoever it is, and me and wont let them move untill i okay it, or reassure him, but he would never bite them. i have had dobes all my life and i know thats what they are bred for but, i have never had one who was this protective of me. i mean its a good thing sometimes, like when i was at the petstore and a man kept following me, and finally just grabbed me when i was trying to hide, thank god i had Hammer, or i dont know what would have happend. but in the end the man had 62 stiches, and was arrested. but i dont know, any ideas whta i could do to reduce the over protetion of me? he does listen when i tell him to stop, or its okay, and he only reacts when im stressed, scared, or upest. but still what else do u think i can do with out taking ALL the protection out of him, and obvioulsy, i need
it!

My Dog has been an outside dog his whole life (4 years) and he has had his same house that amount of time. The last few days he seems really scared to go into the house. All he will do is spin around in circles outside his house and get tangled up in his chain, I have to go out there everynight and help him. I wish he would go into his house and I hope that he doesn't choke himself by spinning in circles. PLEASE HELP ME thanks

My elderly (10) year old Chiauahuah has an enlarged heart. My vet has recommended I feed him canned food that is good for the heart and is low sodium. Anyone have any suggestions?

My dog was chewing on a knuckle bone yesterday. She has never had an issue (and this may not be related) but today she had an accident in the house for the first time (pooped in the middle of the kitchen), and then has had diarrea all day. Should I be worried? How long should I wait to take her to the vet?

I know I may just be a worried pet owner, but I want some advice if I can get it!

My dog is 1 yr old and when I bought him he had all his shots up to date etc. Lately he's been dragging his butt on the carpet...signs of infection? -- He urines constantly too, I heard this can be a sign of urinary tract infection? -- Also, someone told me he breathes heavily..even if he hasnt been running..(like panting) just laying there.... could this be a sign of worms?

Not sure if this is some gland thing, some body odor thing or what. Does somebody have any idea? He gets regular baths, eats right and is brushed after baths.

Our new Golden Retriever puppy is 13 weeks old, and chews on absolutely everything. The only thing that works, is called "Flossies" by a company called Merrick. Only problem is they last about 20 minutes, and cost about three dollars each (it's a dried beef tendon). I've heard bad things about rawhide (he doesn't like them anyway), so I'd like other natural alternatives. Sweet Potato chips (dried) work well, but he goes through them just as quick. We've tried nylon bones, and rubber / plastic chew toys, and he's not interested in them. Any other ideas?!?!?!?

My american pit bull puppy keeps breaking out off and on with something that looks like chicken pox, and you can feel the little bumps too. I have taken him to the vet, and I plan to take him to a different one tomorrow. I wanted to know if anyone has had this happen before...

I have a miniture poodle and I let her run free some times, she is a good dog and my neighbours like her too, ecxept for the people who just bought the house acrross our home. They have two small dogs and the woman has come two times already complaining that our dog has been in her property (nobady has their home fenced) and that she's worry that her "dog" might bite ours. We have tried not to let our dog out, but when we are outside some times she runs with my daughter when she rides her bike. One day my daughter heard her husband yelling at our dog "get out of here". Two days ago she said to my husban that if she sees our dog in her property she'll take her to the pound....Is she going to take all the dogs I've seen in her property to the paund too? Is it me with the problem or is she? Our home is next to the woods and a lake.... and I see a lot of dogs wondering around in our property and it doesn't bother me at all. Any advise in how to handle this situation?

my mom says we can't have one because we don't have a fenced yard and we live on a hill where there are wild animals (ie: deer, raccoons, foxes, etc.). My boyfriend and I have offered to build a kennel for the dog in a spot where there is room (either on my small deck [only my brother and I have access to it] or right infront of said deck) and she didn't say anything. My boyfriend has 14 dogs and knows how to build a kennel, what else can I do to convince her?
I'm very capable of caring for a dog, I help with my boyfriend's and also I have many pets of my own (2 guinea pigs, 2 parakeets, 3 goldfish).

He is a Golden Retriever and is having his first birthday so I want to make it special. I was thinking of inviting other people and letting them bring their dogs too so they can play, but I want to know your input of the theme ideas, activities, food selection etc. By the way, does anyone have any healthy dog snack/cake recipes I can use for the party?

my adorable toy poodle used to be pitch black and is now turning extremely gray. We love her to death no matter what color she is but I would like to maintain her black color. Where would I be able to buy safe dye for her? and would just normal human hair color be dangerous?? thanks!

One of my neighbors has a dog. I don't know which house but I hear him every morning. It seems like he's the only dog on the whole block. I don't recall hearing it at night, so it probably has a bed inside.
But every day when I'm getting ready for work it barks every 5-10 seconds. I never hear its owners or another dog. Ever. My question is since dogs are pack animals, is it inhumane to leave one outside by itself?
