No need to worry unless there is excessive swelling, oozing or the incision is hot to the touch. Be sure to keep her activity level to nearly nothing for the first 7 days after surgery to prevent injury.
Bruising can happen. As long as you keep an eye on the incision site and none of the above happens, all will be good.
Great job on the spaying! She'll be a happier, healthier dog in the long run!

The reason bruising can be perfectly normal is because of the trauma that happens to the skin. The skin is actually pinched and pinned with the surgical drape to hold the incision open to access the reproductive organs.
If it's not truly bruising, it's possible that what you are seeing is staining from the betadine wash to sterilize the incision site prior to surgery.

Yes brusing can be normal after a traumatic surgery like these. Just like people, all dogs bruise differently. Some bruise easy others don't. As long as there isn't signs of infection of the incision site itself (heated and really warm to the touch, redness, puss leakage, a foul smell, excessive swelling, or red lines leading away from the incision) your dog should be fine and you will see a decreasing in the amount of brusing steadily over the next few days. Your best indicator is how your dog acts. If She acts ok and on the up swing, she most likely IS. If she were acting sore and uncomfortable and "snappish" or always trying to dig or chew it, and she looked like there was infection is the only time i would be concerned. Sounds like your little girl is responding normally and will be back to her old self soon with no worries. Just don't let her over do the exercise or stretching/jumping too soon.

This doesn't sound too good. Firstly dogs have a really high threshold for pain and if she's just now starting to feel better 3 days later, that's not real great. Did you take her to your regular vet or get it done at one of those spay/neuter your pet discount things that organizations advertise? Unfortunately, at these types of places you get such a discounted rate because they let vet students do it and they can sometimes do a cruddy job. I've seen examples were there was a build up of scar tissue that had to be removed later.

My dog was a little bruised after her spaying. I asked my vet. He said she should be fine but to keep an eye on her for about ten days to be sure. (She was by the way)

It's a normal part of the healing process. Just try to ensure that she doesn't mess around with her wound too much. If you notice a lot of puss or the wound just looks awful, that's when you should be worried. Bruising is normal though :)

i wouldnt worry as long as she is not overly swollen, leaking anything from the incision or not eating, acting lathargic, still it is wise to touch base with the vet and see if they are worried
