My 10 month old pure breed german shepherd is more of a walmart greeter than protective or territorial. He will let anyone in our house, and acts more like a lab, than a shepherd. Comparitive to our 2 year old female who is very protective of our family and home. Is there a certain age when the puppies grow up, and become more protective? Both dogs are in correction based classes, submit easily, and display good obedience. Totally different temperment.

Would it be illegal to put a harness or vest on my German Shepherd that said POLICE K9 or SWAT K9?... would that be akin to "impersonating an officer"? I've heard that police dogs and horses are not just considered property but officers of the law.

I'd do it just for kicks on rare occasions, not for day-to-day use.

I have a 4 month old baby that goes to her Grandmas house everyday from 8 - 5p.m. Well, she sneezes a lot over there and cries all day for her. We have tried everything from changing her formula to getting my baby on medication to keep her stomach in order because we blamed it on stomach problems. While my babies problems went away at home (my home) they continued over at grandmas house. The only thing I can link it to is their dog. It has a skin infection and it is constantly itching and his dander flys everywhere. This dog smells so bad. It all began in the summer when they were giving him flea baths because he was infected w/fleas, well, that dried out his skin and now he constantly itches. I think my baby might be allergic to this dog. Since they cannot afford to take this dog to the vet, is there a remedy out there that is natural that you can use on a dog w/itchy skin? Maybe if he stopped itching and his dander was under control, my baby might be happier.

Our very old dog will need to be put to sleep soon and it is killing me thinking of taking him to the vet. Is there med out there that will put him to sleep peacefully, that I could administer myself ? I hate even thinking of this and the pain of losing him gets to be very strong at times.

All those years of fun and love have to come to this, everytime we have pets.... makes me want to simply not have any more for this is very painful.

I'll post a link to my flickr pictures with a few pictures of my new puppy. She is 8 weeks old and her mom was a pure bred beagle. We don't know what her father was, she was a rescue pup. She had other siblings, 2 that were white and red spotted (spots the color she is), 2 were typical beagle markings and one was all black with brown on its face. Any guesses as to what she might be a mix of (her color just seems so strange to me, for a beagle and her ears don't seem as big as some beagle pups).

Regardless, she's a sweetheart. :) Thanks for your help!

my husband went to a job today to change locks on a house which tenants had just up and left 4 days ago, all that was left was a load of rubbish and mess and guess what a PUPPY, he brought her home she is a beauty but not entirely sure of the breed looks like there is staff in her, anyway have given her lots of cuddles and some food and she seems fine considering her ordeal will take her to vet tomorrow for check up. I already have a 6 month border collie who seems to be fine with her, but we decided a few weeks ago after consideration that we would not get another dog, however this has made me re-consider my decision it has been impossible not to. Do you think this if fate. how can people so cruel.

my dog is so skinny and i dont know why she always has god food out and is always eatin the cat food but i notice when she eats the cat or dog food she picks up a few pieces at a time then only makes 4 or 5 trips then shes done why is this? when i pet her i can feel her back bone i think she needs to gain weight helppppp please
