If you are wanting to get a Labrador to show at a adoption center, you probably wont find one, since all dogs that enter dog shows have to be AKC registered. If you want to buy a Labrador to raise for a dog show they do not come cheap, they range from $300 to $800, depends on the bloodline. you can find more info at http://www.akc.org/breeds/labrador_retriever/index.cfm

Adoption centers do not have dogs to show in conformation. Dogs shown in conformation cannot be altered as in spayed or neutered, and must have full registrations. It is possible to show an adopted dog in performance though. If what your really looking for is a nice quality adult of a given breed the thing to do is contact the rescue person in that breed's national club. If your looking for a show dog, my best suggestion would be go to some shows and start looking at the attributes you like, read up on the breed standard etc. look at pedigrees and decide what lines (genetically related dogs within a breed) you want. Also watch for health clearances, in Labradors OFA papers clearing for Hip Dysplasia is important. Remember, when seeking a show dog that it is much better to search and if you have to wait for a good quality dog than is to trapse around traveling and showing a lesser quality dog. Aside from that, truth be known, (and not everyone is going to like hearing it) just because someone is a member or even president of a given breed club does not mean their dogs are the best in their breed. It means that they have time and volunteer work into their club. Each breed also has a breed magazine that show people advertize wins in which might be of great value to you when doing research into what you want to start showing. Infodog.com lists many dog shows, all over the country which is another place to start searching for close shows to go and watch.

There are tons of Lab breeders out there. You can also look online, lots and lots of websites selling, adopting, breeding Labs. They are the number one dog breed that families adopt, and with good reason. I'm wondering what your experience is in show dogs, not everybody is capable of showing dogs. Good luck.

Are you interested in showing dogs? Or are you interested in adopting a retired show dog?
Either way, you could do a serach on the Labrador Retriever club of America & go to their website to find reputable breeders in your area, or rescue operations.
