Check her teeth or the roof of her nouth for soreness. that is what it sounds like. Sometimes a bone or stick will lodge across the roof of their mouth. or she may be haiving dental problems.

What kind of dog do you have?? I have a chihuahua that does that same thing. They go to the bowl get a couple pieces of food, take it to his bed and eats and then does the same thing over. He does this only a couple of times and then stops. He does this throughout the day so he isn't super skinny but he is skinny. I go to the vet on a regular basis and the vet says he looks good. The cat food is definitely not good so you should try to make him stop that. If you think he needs to gain some extra weight I would just take him to the vet and tell him what's going on and maybe he can put him on some supplements, or something that slows down his metabolism.

If she doesnt have abnormal poop then she prob doesnt have worms. I worked at an SPCA for over 2 years and I have seen every type of worm there is....some worms you could see in the poop and if it is runny or really dark or has a funny smelll that could also be worms. so if none of those apply then NO she doesnt have worms...they are right about tyroid problems..that you should get checked out. stop her from eating the cat food, its NOT good for her and can upset her stomach. My dog was really skinny, the best food for that is SCIENCE DIET! it is high in protien and will help her to gain weight. My dog when I adopted him was 40 pounds....and in 6 months he has put on almost 20 pounds...so he is at his IDEAL weight. and not to mention science diet is 0one of the best dogs foods and most dogs LOVE IT. get the small bites though alot of dogs prefer those. its easier to chew. and if that doesnt work, you can get some wet dog food and put a TINY amount of top, if that still doesnt work try a little bit of babyfood, but only BEEF OR CHICKEN, anything else will make her sick. but dont just go right for the baby food. she may get hooked on it :) also if she science diet does work, she will need to increase her meals slowly, start off feeding her tiny amounts through out the day, 4 times a day then 3 times then 2 times. :) I hope that helps at the spca I worked for I was incharge of rehabilitating the skinny animals :) amoung many other things :0)

First of all when you first started to notice her loosing weight you should have taken her to the vet. That's a part of being a responsible pet owner. If you can visibly see & feel her back bone you've let it go too long! She could have worms or something worse. Take her to the vet. Only a vet can run the proper tests to figure out what's going on.

My dog is also like this shes very nervous and worries all the weight off her. We took her to the vet who put her on a special formula for that reason. Its put a few pounds on her. Don't fall into the trap of feeding her human food or crap cause then shes not eating as healthy. Also watch her eating the cats food there is too much protein in it for dogs and it could hurt her kidneys or liver

You should have the dog checked for parisites and kidney function.
One thing you should not do is feed it puppy food to gain weight. My sister tried to do this for her skinny great dane and the vet said this was a no-no to hard on the kidney's. My sister ended up having to get a special Rx dog food for weight gain.
As to the 4-5 trips to the bowl. My dog does the same thing. I have no idea why. I have friends whose dogs do this. It is weird I but there is nothing wrong with it.

As others have said, See a Good Vet !
If she runs loose a lot, she needs high protein food for active dogs.
I had a skinny dog and used to make a pot of stew with lots of barley, meat and vegetables then mix it with dry food twice a day.
I stopped leaving food out for him to eat any time he wanted.
This made him eat all of the food at each feed time. It did help a bunch. But please see a Vet first and foremost.

okay, first you need to think about the kind of dog. alot of them don't have alot of fatty interiors and are naturally lean. if your dog isn't that type of dog there are two things you have to do. the first is to keep her strictly on the dog food. if she is eating cat food that is made to keep cats lean then she is ruining her diet. also try to make eating fun for her, make a game and she will start to enjoy getting a full meal. if she is still under weight then consult a vet for a weight gaining formula for her food. but please keep in mind that some dogs will be naturally lean and being "normal" could actually be overweight for them. good luck!

She might have worms..take her to the vet. And feed her DOG food. That might be the problem. If she won't stop eating the cat food, then put it somewhere she can't get it. (On a washer or dryer. But somewhere that cat can still get to) But yea..def. take her to the vet.

Has she been checked recently for worms? Have her teeth been checked recently, perhaps she has some dental problems happening that is making it painful for her to eat.

Best thing to do would be to get her a vet appointment and have her checked out. She may need some blood work to start ruling out some things.

Try wet dog food (no cat food!) and definitely take her to the vet. It could be a medical problem.
