It depends on what you mean by "show." If you mean show, in a ring in conformation, you cannot adopt a lab from a rescue group and show him in a regular class.

Because the dog would not have papers, it would need to be altered and get an ILP number http://www.akc.org/reg/ilpex.cfm.

A dog with an ILP can be shown in junior showmanship by a child learning to show dogs.

All other events--such as obedience, tracking, agility, would be open to a lab with an ILP. If you want to compete in a performance event, let the local lab rescue group know what you are looking for so they can match you with a dog who has appropriate drive. www.petfinder.com

But, as for typical "dog shows" where they are judged on conformation, a rescue lab cannot be shown.

FYI In order to get an ILP, a dog MUST be altered.

Hope this helps.

Show quality labradors are very rarely, if ever in a rescue. Good, reputable breeders keep those dogs and breed them and sell the pups.

The pups however may end up at rescues. I volunteer with a lab rescue and we have plenty of pure bred, AKC registered dogs. Many are very well bred and good looking dogs of all ages and colors. Are they show quality? Very few. Are they when they leave the rescue - NOPE - we spay and neuter them.

Are they good pets - you better believe it. They are awesome dogs. These are dogs that are dumped, surrendered, picked up as strays, given up due to divorce, moving, got a kid, hate the shedding, he's too big, he licks, she has muddy feet etc. The reasons are endless. They aren't screwed up, bad dogs. They had owners who in most cases, couldn't make a lifefime committment to the dog.

If are asking about a show quality dog on this list, you must want a certain "look". You can find that on Petfinder.com. If you want to learn to show a dog. You've got a long way to go before you want to invest serious $ and time with a "show quality" dog from a breeder.

Do some research and then look for a lab rescue in your area. I bet there are several in your state. You can get a gorgeous, well bred dog there and save his or her life. And you can start learning how showing works with him or her. There are dozens of levels.

Visit petfinder.com to get started.

You need to find someone who breeds them not an adoption center. Just do some research and you will find them. We got our lab from a couple who has a male dog with his Master Hunters. You can tell the difference between someone who is breeding show dogs or dogs for retrieving or a back yard breeder. Try to stay away from back yard breeders because they are less inclined to make sure their dogs are OFA'd and in good health.

LOL, you're looking for a "SHOW DOG" at an adoption center?

Anyone with quality pups or dogs isn't going to put them in the hands of an adoption agency.

You will not find Labrador show dogs in a rescue or shelter.

You'd have to find a lab breeder that was retiring a dog and make arrangements that way.

LMAO!!!!

Ya gotta be kidding!!! You think a breeder spends thousands showing and breeding to allow them to be 'adopted'? They are not homeless, many breeders have waiting lists for a puppy.
