I am thinking about buying a Papillon from a breeder form out of state (because they are none around where I live), how do they ship puppies?

My mom breeds yorkies and has been shipping puppies for years. We ship counter-to-counter, which is better than cargo so the puppies are not in the cold. The puppies have always arrived at their destination safely. It usually costs about $120 to ship a puppy. I would highly recommend using Continental Airlines as they always check on the puppies and make sure they have food and water and aren't getting ill. It's also good to get your dog shipped because it requires the breeder to get a health certificate from his or her vet, so you know the dog you are getting is healthy.

The best thing for you to do is to fly there & pick up the puppy.
You can get a cheap pet carrier (I got one for my cat for $20 online.)
It must be able to fit under the seat ahead of you & depending upon the airline - the dog's ticket costs $50 to $100 in addition to your ticket.
OR, you could have him shipped, which costs about three times as much. He would ride in the cargo hold & that's WAY too cold for a little papillon.
I have shipped many dogs - but I have Collies & they are too large to fit under the seat (of course!) So they must ride in the cargo hold & they do just fine. But a big fuzzy Collie is NOT a baby Papillon. Hope you enjoy your new little puppy!

You'd have to ask the breeder, because there are ways to ship pets on ground or through air. Some breeders specify how they ship them.

Don't ever buy a pet without seeing it.

Don't do it. Never get a dog you have not seen in person and spent time with.
