i gave him the stuff immediately after eating the poison, so it wouldn't have time to get in his system... i believe he will be okay

Depending on the dogs size you can give him peroxide,to make him vomit. Call your vet for the correct amount ASAP Good luck to your dog.

He needs to get to a vet ASAP and get the antidote. You must see exactly what substance he ate and tell the doctor, so that the correct antidote can be given (usually vitamin K). You must do that immediately, even if he has no symptoms, because rat poison works in his body and can cause serious damage within a few days.
There is also a helpline for animal poisonings (see www.aspca.org/apcc ) or you can call the vet, but it's better to get there ASAP.

If this is supposed to be funny, it is not. We don't know anything about your dog---size, age, anything.

CALL YOUR VET!

****IF your can't get through, the ASPCA runs a 24 hour a day POISON HOTLINE. Here is their information from their webpage:

As the premier animal poison control center in North America, the APCC is your best resource for any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you think that your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, make the call that can make all the difference: (888) 426-4435. A $55 consultation fee may be applied to your credit card.

Here is the whole page address:
http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=pro_apcc&JServSessionIdr001=r8avwu5od1.app28a

Now get off the computer and get on the phone and get your dog some help. Every minute can count, so get moving!

BTW: If he dies they may prosecute you for animal abuse.

Seek Medical Attention Immediately.

Take him to the vet. D Con will cause his blood to stop clotting and within 2 weeks he will bleed out internally. He needs a blood test to check and Vitamin K to counter-act the effects of D Con. Although he is throwing up, the poison is in his system. Take him to the vet asap.

Take him to the vet NOW.

Rat poison affects the blood clotting. You need to immediately withhold any liquids (water, etc.) from your dog, treat him as you would for shock, and take him to the vet.

Treatment for shock is as follows: wrap your dog in a blanket for restraint and body heat. Keep his head on the same level than the rest of the body. If breathing stops, give CPR.

Rush the dog to the vet.

VET RIGHT NOW! my dog ate mouse posion and the vet made him vomit. he then had to take medication for a few weeks after. the effects of mouse/rat poison aren't immediate. he might seem fine now, but in a few days he could bleed internally and die. the sooner you get to the vet the better so they can make him vomit.

This happened to my dog (actually the vet couldn't determine whether it was rat bait or snail bait, but it was one of the two) and even with aggressive intervention from a VET he nearly died. Please go to the vet now!

It will be expensive but your dog will suffer so much if you don't get him help asap.

BTW, I would make sure it never happens again. I had to seal my back yard and line the edges with dog safe bait, just in case any critters came into my yard from a neighbor's yard. They can carry the poison with them.

no! no! no! get him to a vet! now, woman!
p.s. why do you dog owners lay bait? you have the best pest control nature can provide. i know this as i have 2 cats & under rat or mouse infestation, my home & the homes of neighbouring cat/dog owners were bypassed by the rodents. if you keep predatory animals, do not!!! lay poison! are you all really that stupid?
